5K day  - Last year I went out pretty hard and the last 1.5 miles were red lined.  This year I made a conscious decision to not go out too hard and then have something left at the end for the last mile or so.  I executed perfectly, but it wasn't a good idea.  I know better.

mile 1 - 5:54

mile 2 - 12:00 ?

3.1 - 18:36

6:00 ave pace

Very disappointed by my effort today.  I ran scared of a flame out.  That's not a good way to run a 5K.

Was this an organized 5K? Whats it's name? 18:36 and worried. Huh! Not bad for lookin over your shoulder for a burn out! How did you square up with the rest of the field?

yeah Slick it is the Atlanta Track club's last race of the "year". The 5K finale. 5th in AG.

Sorry that you were not happy with the results.

Maybe you should drown your sorrows in a nice cold glass of Tang'd iced tea. :)

(Seriously ... anyone who is disappointed with a time like that is KILLER FAST!!!)

A miscalculated decision, that's all! You tried both ways and learned from it! Your time is very impressive as always!

I'm with Smooth. Very impressive. It's been a tough summer for training. Do I dare ask what time the first place finisher got?

Great job Tim. You have come a long ways in your running over the last few years. I'm sure 18:35 a few years ago would have caused you to do the Happy Dance. Now it is a disappointing finish for you, but still amazingly fast to the rest of us. Way to go!!!!

thanks all!

Dale the winner came in with a 15:36. Masters winner was 16:36. Female was 17:21. There were some speedy people out there for sure. There always are. :)

There's no holding back in a 5k. There is not enough distance to make up the time. You still ran a good race and posted a great time.

thanks Andy - lesson learned
