4 miles with a handful of strides. :) It has been a crazy few days taking midterms and finishing up papers. BUT ... TODAY I AM OFFICIALLY HALF WAY THROUGH MY PT PROGRAM!!!! 50% of my doctorate is on the books!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!!! :)

Started out super strong feeling AWESOME. Only thing that didn't feel perfect was my tummy. It wasn't sick ... it just didn't want to eat. The night before I had about 4 ounces of salmon and a sweet potato. Probably not the best carb-loading food but my appetite just wasn't there. Before the race started I was able to eat a banana, a couple bites of a zone bar and a few swigs of Gatorade. I was a tad bit worried that I wasn't fueling well ... but it was what it was ... my tummy just didn't want to take in food. Anyway ... long story short I ran one of my best races to date up to roughly 18 miles when the energy just gave out. I forced down one Gu at mile 9ish and tried for another around mile 15 but it just wouldn't go. The gatorade at the aid stations was far to sweet but the water tasted good. :) The wheels started to come off. It may have been due to lack of fuel (I did eat really well on Thursday and I was hydrated though), or possibly the XTERRA two weeks prior. However, I think the most likely cause was simply that I was not trained to run a 3:20. I just didn't have enough miles stringed together in my training. I had a lot of cross training miles, but mountain biking and swimming minutes just don't translate into running miles. (ALBEIT SO MUCH FUN!!!!) I am very happy with a 3:23:50. It is a new PR (even though I feel my 3:26 time at Ogden was a much stronger race). Plus I have had a wonderful weekend with Ry, Annie and Nic!!! (Annie also got a personal best even though she has crazy sick and hacking up a lung.) It was also great to spend a tiny bit of time with Smooth and to have Rachel smack my buttocks as she zoomed by me someplace between mile 20 and 23 (the last 8 miles of the race are all a blur to me ... honestly). So many had AWESOME results today!! Congrats to you all! (I just watched a video of Fritz's and Amber's win ... EXTREMELY COOL!) Happy Day! :)

I did a little trail running with Ry the day after (couldn't resist) with the commitment to not run again until this Saturday. I really want my legs to get a nice little break. The urge to run is definitely there. * Get this: Ry entered the lottery for the Ogden Half Marathon and signed up for the Runners Series as well (he is considering SGM). Who would of thought!? 10.1 miles, AP 8:52 AWESOME late morning run!!! Everyone wanted to run today sans Payton (we'll get him next time) and we had it scheduled perfectly so each person knew roughly what time they would be running and were ready to go without any delays. :) And it went a little something like this: - 5 miles with Ry and Smo, AP 9:02. Ran to WJ High because she wanted to do one fast 400 on the track and then back. Offered Smo a dollar if she could beat Ry home. She got a cute little grimace and took off. She got a dollar! :) - 3.1 miles with Ry and Rylee, AP 8:27. We ran comfortably until the end. She pushed hard the last .25 miles and smoked me! - 1 mile with Sherm, AP 8:56 plus a 100 meter sprint (his event). I challenged him. What an idiot I am. It wasn't even close. He beat me by at least 25 meters. I thought I would do better than that. DANG!!! But he lit up as he patted me on my back and told me "good job." Funny!!! :) - 1 mile with Livvy, AP 9:46. Running with Livvy was the perfect way to end. She is so stinkin' cute!!! :) :) :) GREAT DAY! :)

morning: 6 miles, AP 7:33 My brain must not be working correctly. My intention was to run 6 miles around an 8:30 pace. I started the TM at 7.0 mph, which is an 8:34 pace but for some stupid reason my mind was thinking it was around a 9:30 pace. After about two minutes I put it to 8.0 thinking that was an 8:34 pace. I tell you, my mind is not functioning. I couldn't believe how hard an "8:34 pace" felt. I kept thinking to myself, "Well this is horrible! This shouldn't feel that hard. Crap!" It wasn't until the middle of my third mile that I realized my mistake!!! So I figured I should just tough it out and finish. I'm definitely not fully recovered yet. This run was hard. ST: upper body/RC added push-ups and dips afternoon: 45 minute run with Julia between classes. Neither of us had a watch. I'll just say 5 miles. PT building -> Hogle Zoo -> Golf Course -> some neighborhood -> and then back again. (Lots of hills.) I wasn't planning on a second run today but Julia talked me into it! She is a super fast runner (ran for some university ... stink, can't remember which one) but has lost some speed due to lack of running during PT school. My guess is that it will come back quickly and that I won't be able to keep up with her for much longer.

| 14.05 miles, AP 8:55 Another AWESOME running day with the fam!! :) 10K trail run with Ry, Rylee and Smo in Corner Canyon!!!!!! The girls did INCREDIBLE!!! Over 700 feet of climbing during the first half of the run!! This is the longest the girls have run. Our AP was 9:40 which I think is fantastic considering how much climbing there was. SO FUN!!! 3.85 miles, AP 7:58 by my lonesome from the trails to Roxberry Juice where Ry, Rylee and Smo went to get Smoothies. 2 miles with Oliver and Livvy (well Livvy only ran the first mile with us then Oliver and I went for another loop). First mile was 9:48 and second mile was 8:42. 2 more miles with Ry, AP 8:09, to and from the gym where we had a row showdown!!! Ry is a much better rower than I am so the challenge was whether or not he could row 2000 meters in the time I did 1600. I clicked in at 7:58 (my fastest) and he clicked in at exactly 8:00!!! Bike: 30 minutes/Random 15-20 (half and half)/4.6 miles Run: 7 miles (2 miles @ 8:34, 3 miles @ 7:09, 1 mile @ 8:34, 1 mile @ 6:53) ST: upper body/ma * The time I spent with Jake and Andrea last night must have had some speed diffusion type of effect on me because the 7:09 miles didn't feel nearly as difficult as I was expecting. As we all know speed would obviously diffuse from the higher concentrated areas to the lower concentration portions. Sorry Jake and Andrea if you felt your speed being usurped (but you had excess to spare and I have quite the ways to go). :) :) :)

| 15.3 miles, AP 8:12 Perfect weather (didn't start my run until close to noon) and company!! First 10.05 miles were with Ry on the JRP (scouting out the most dirt and wooded areas as possible). I think Ryan has worked out more in the last few months than he has in the past 10 years. It has been AWESOME and it is really starting to show. I asked Ry what he thought our average pace was for those 10 miles. He guessed high eights or low nines. WRONG! Average pace was 8:19. He was shocked! At the beginning of August he ran 8 miles with me and he pushed hard (much harder than today) and we average 8:47. He has lost roughly 10 pounds since then (that and roughly 30 seconds per mile)!!!! :) After Ry and I got back Smo headed out with me. We ran to the high school so that she could run a couple of 400s on the track. She beat me in both by about 1/2 of a second. We ended up with 3 miles, AP 8:28. Lastly I ran a lonesome 2.25 miles by myself, AP 7:10. I wish I could say that these miles felt comfortable but they definitely were not (and that was even with these miles being gradually downhill). But I'm still glad I pushed. :) Happy Saturday everyone! :) |
