I had heard good things about the TOU Half, so I signed up a few months ago. In the meantime, I have had some busy times and haven't been able to train as much as I would like. But I decided to run anyway.

Scott Ensign and family generously allowed my family to stay with them. I went down with Scott to the race in the morning, and he is good company as always. Thanks, Scott!

My official half marathon PR is 1:35, so I figured I could beat that. The first 10 miles were great (and mostly downhill and mostly with a tailwind). I averaged 6:30/mile through that stretch. But then I struggled through miles 11 and 12 big time. Mile 13 was better. My final time was 1:27:41. A personal best. But I'm disappointed in my effort toward the end. Oh well. The other sad thing was that I got passed at the end by no-shirt guy. I was annoyed the whole race that he was running without a shirt, so I really wanted to beat him. Maybe next year. Ha ha. :)

Nice job.

Great job Steve. I wasn't the no-shirt guy today, but I have been known to not wear one every now and then. However, I don't think I would ever do that in a race.

I wish I could have been there to take no shirt guy out for you. Nice PR. You'll crush it next time.

Nice PR on limited training! I was hoping to see you there but decided I'd better skip it this year.

The no shirt guy was probably my brother - he finished 5 seconds ahead of you - I think. He's got speed - last 0.1 in 28 seconds, but a tough work schedule that killed his training this summer. There's a discussion on forums about how fast you have to be to wear a singlet - apparently the standard is higher for no shirt;) Nice PR and congrats on the Age Division Placing!

Great. Now I have to take out Jason's brother. =P

Burt - I didn't know are the designated hit-man. Next time you're in Utah, let me know and I'll arrange a 'meeting'.

Steve, great job, I am amazed you ran in that time with almost no training. awesome. we enjoyed having you and Laurel and the kids stay with us. Karen really enjoyed meeting your family too. come back anytime!

Dang that no shirt guy!!!

Nice job on the race and the super huge PR! Miles 11 and 12 were hard, but I am reading that on almost everyone's race report so we were in good company.

Sorry I did not recognize you for a second, I was out of it (official runner's high). Wish we had a chance to chat more, but I had to get back out there as promised.

My husband didn't wear a shirt (at least half of the time) and he ran a 1:52. He was surprised at all the people who did. We are a modest state!

You guys should see Mark's 5k pictures posted on his blog. Everybody is topless in Florida. Luckily only guys are in the picture.

Yeah, I know I was just being silly to get annoyed at no-shirt guy. Maybe I was just envious that he would be confident enough in his physique to go shirtless. :)

Where does a shirtless man put his bib?

From Jason McK on Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 12:06:35 from 63.255.173.99

I used to where it on the back of my shorts - until I realized that you'll never be able to find race photos on Zazoosh. Now I wear it on the right leg of my shorts. I think my brother wears it on his left.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 13:11:05 from 71.219.102.155

I thought you HAD to have it on your shirt. No matter either way, i will not be racing shirtless.
