I currenty live in Southern Utah. My wife Kendra and I have 4 children and no pets. We also own/operate the St. George Running Center a specialty running shoe store in St. George UT.  We also head-up the St. George Running Club.

Went out with Clyde, Bill and Matt. After about 4 miles in my IT Band started feeling tight. So, I decided to turn back. Bill had pitty for me so he turn back too. After about a mile from turning around I started having knee pain so I stopped and walked the rest of the way back to Chuckawalla. I was so ticked to have the pain after being so carefull all week. I wasn't even pushing it or anything with the guys.

After leaving the run I went home and soaked in ice water up to my waist. I'm hoping after ice, rest, and stetching the rest of the weekend I'll be able to get out again on Mon.

Pay attention to the fact that your previous run was done only about 12 hours earlier. I believe this is the problem, or at least a primary contributing factor. With your injury you might be able to run 3 miles and then 3 miles again 12 hours later, but not 5 and 5.

Also, how much sleep did you get the night before, and what did you eat in between?

You might try an experiment - run 3 times a day 2 miles each time, and eat very well in between with the emphasis on fruits and vegetables. If possible, take a nap.

Sasha, I think you're on to something with your comment above. I also think not spending enough time stretching and icing after my run Fri. and not stretching enough before my run Sat. were contributing factors as well. I was feeling so good the whole week and lost focus on my injury and now I am paying for it again.
