Get back into shape and lower my running times (5K and 10K in particular).

Run a half marathon and possibly a marathon.

Still be running 20+ years from now.


I ran cross country and track in high school in good old Indiana and at Valparaiso University in college. I've been married for 14 years now to my beautiful wife Kathleen. We have 3 wonderful kids, and I teach physics, astronomy, and earth science at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL.

It was another nice day with a little cooler temps than last week. We had a cold front and rain over the weekend, so I didn't get my garden started. I felt great today during the run. I even decided to do a couple faster surges. The first one was for 0.4 miles and the second was 0.5 miles. I'm guessing they were around 6:00/mile pace. They felt good. I think I could sustain them for longer, but I'm not used to that pace. I seemed to lose focus and slow down some near the end. I need to find my watch, so I can see my pace.

It felt great to get out for a run today. I decided to run on the Prairie Grass Trail out to the power relay station. I missed my turn in town and went an extra half mile, but it was fine. Legs felt fine and pretty smooth today.

I did a quick elementary school loop in the afternoon. My legs started out tight and a little sore, but they loosened up.

It was a calm day, but nice. I did my housing school loop plus. My left knee was a little sore, but it wasn't affecting my stride.
