Looks like we will be staying 260 miles from anywhere (Del Rio) for another 3-4 years.  Seesh, it's not as bad as it sounds.

10 miles on the TM since it was 80 outside with 80% humidity.  I just wasn't in the mood to face that.

Went downtown to Del Rio to check out a Zumbathon.  Totally lame.  There were about 10-15 people standing in the rain by a stage.  I didn't really know if they were planning to dance/workout or not?? My friend and I left and drove home.  I get Zumba certified next week.  I hope to put a kick butt class together and teach somewhere in Del Rio a few times a week.  It will be a great change from running.

My husband was selected in his class flight to be an Instructor Pilot here.  I am really proud of the hard work he has already put in this last year.  They don't select the weak to be instructors.  I think he will rock!!! On a positive side to staying in Del Rio, he will be less likely to deploy.  I get to see my husband a little bit most days.  :)  He will still be putting in 12+ hours everyday.  Another positive note is that we will be staying in San Antonio for a few months.  HELLOOOOO running clubs.  :) For sure I will find some runners in the city, I just have to.

Congrats to your husband (and you)! Sorry about having to stay at Laughlin, but getting selected as a FAIP can definitely be a good deal in the long run. Plus you can make some good TDY money at PIT, and San Antonio is a lot more fun. I had a 4-month tdy there a few years ago (before we had kids) and we had a lot of fun.

And nice going on the 10-miler on the TM, sounds brutal!

Thank you so much Joe! We were actually all smiles when we found out about the FAIP. Seemed like everyone around us was giving us a big pity party. I really hope it won't be that bad. I just REALLY need to find someone that will run with me.

The Air Force is exciting and nerve racking at the same time. The public announcement of where your assignment will be is just a big bag of nerves.

The hard part is being stuck in Del Rio a few more years. A change of scenery would have been real nice.

Congratulations to your husband. My sister and her husband lived in Del Rio for a while, and San Antonio too (he is a doctor). They liked SA a lot and I'm sure you will, lots of runners there. The time in Del Rio will fly by, but I'm sure one of the hardest parts is finding races.

I'm SO excited for David, not so much for you :) However, getting Zumba certified and starting your own little baby running club? You have NO idea how that will flower over the next few years. Maybe you won't want to leave then? :)

SA will be a fun little vaca for you too. I may be getting a good lump of frequent flier miles here soon and was thinking I may need to take a trip to come see you! It wouldn't be long, but it would be worth it!

10 miles on the TM, you're gonna love that thing by the time you leave! :)

Flatlander, The racing and running community in Del Rio is very dismal. I HATE running here in the summer and for the next few summers I will probably be best friends with the TM. We are excited to go to SA and enjoy the food and atmosphere there. Too bad it will only be for a little while.

Rachel, It would be awesome if you came to visit! We could find a lot of fun things to do if you did come and visit.

You are excited for David? Why?? I feel bad for him a little. 12+ hour days in the heat of the summer? This was by far NOT our first choice, but we will deal with it. It is a little nerve racking watching all of our friends leave and fly planes they most likely want to fly. Being a FAIP is not a coveted job by any means.

We will both have a positive attitude about it and HOPEFULLY we will end up with something that we will both be excited about.

I guess I thought it was a good thing to be an instructor, kind of a coveted job given to the best. Despite the long hours, I thought it was something he wanted and would enjoy. If is isn't then that really stinks :( I guess that means that they wanted him, but he wanted something different. Uggghh, never a fun place to be.
