45F, N 16-24 mph.  7:04 AP.  I dumped Pfitz for the time being and am following Mark Hadley's training methods for awhile.  Today's run was 15 @ steady state pace (zone 5).  What does that mean?  For me it's about 7:05-7:10 -- a pace that I always thought was kind of "no-man's land" but this guy uses it in the fundamental phase of training, before the marathon specific stuff starts.  Once I get 11 or 12 weeks out from Boston, these basically get replaced with MP work.

I enjoyed the run, and suppose I can even call it a "workout," which is part of the reason I like this guy.  Splts were 7:26, 7:00, 7:02, 6:58, 7:05, 6:57, 7:07, 7:05, 7:01, 7:09, 7:04, 7:06, 7:00, 7:02, 6:54.

I was not surprised to be able to complete it, but I was surprised how comfortable it was, 3 weeks after a full marathon in which I only ran 13 sec/mile faster.  Normally I still have marathon stink on my legs for 5 or 6 weeks, before I'm back to normal.  Maybe it was supposed to be somewhat easy though, I've never really tried anything similar.  Maybe the extended break after the race actually got me ready to roll sooner.  Either way, I'm feeling good about where I'm at right now; 2013 will hopefully the year of a bunch of big PRs.

Great run, Joe. I think it makes sense to run just above marathon pace, especially on longer runs. I only have two samples for evidence, but my marathon times have been ~16 seconds faster than my fastest long run.

I may throw some of these slower tempo runs in through basebuilding (what Kim Smith calls "aerobic tempo" and similar to what Paul has called "light tempo").

I would say your break did you well. Either way, you are off and . . . running.

Way to go Joe! Way impressive that you can kick into top gear so shortly after a marathon. Check out your pace and mile splits, NICE work!

very nice, joe. i'm currently making my way through mark hadley's book -- there is some great stuff in there that i'm planning on implementing as well.

keep it up.

I think you're going to like the variety of workouts in his marathon plan. Its really great for organizing and structuring the long buildups. I learned a lot from reading it. Re-emphasized a lot of the things I already think, but also showed me a couple ways I can tweak my own program.

Great workout, and I'm glad you've bounced back so quickly. That little bit of extra time off probably has already paid off.

Jason - thanks - definitely a good aerobic push that will help endurance. I'd feel guilty calling it a "tempo" though!

Bec - I'm definitely not used to recovering this fast...it's nice!

Allie - I'm pretty excited about this block; definitely some new stuff for me in there too.

Jake - case in point, I'm doing 16-20 x 200 on Wednesday. That's a first. I am looking forward to it too - I think the variety is helping the mental side of things as well!
