73 degrees, ran before the sun came up.

I want to start running a lot of 7:15 miles since that is my BQ pace.  I'm realistically at least a couple years away from being able to hold that pace for a marathon but I figure it's 10K pace now, and maybe HM pace by the end of the year if I can keep running uninjured.  So I set out to do just 2 today and failed already!  I could tell by my out-of-breath warmup miles it wasn't my day, but I still gave it a go and started to lose my form around 1.2.  The old me would've pushed through it but the new me now knows that running like that causes injuries.  That, and I'm lazier.  Anyway my stamina is clearly in the toilet after the injury layoff so back to the grind of easy miles for awhile.  Overall pace 8:23 for the 6 miles.

Don't be discouraged it will come quicker than you think! I have been discourage since my April marathon--unable to really set any PR's and fitness gains seemed to come to a grinding halt. When I got back to good 'ol base building with easy miles and just started putting miles in the bank--voila, the fitness gains started again. There is something to be said for plain ol consistent mileage! You can do it without getting injured and start adding speedy stuff later on when your base is solid. You were smart to back off and not push it. Still, that is a pretty brisk "easy" pace you ran! I love running before the sun comes up--the hard part is just getting out of bed but once I'm up and running I'm glad!

What April said. Hang in there. It won't be long.

I agree. You do feel like crud for a bit, but it does come back faster than you think it will!

I can not believe it is so hot before the sun comes up. I hate summer.

Just keep at it.

Ditto all that. You are naturally fast and you will be fine. Too much speed kills, even though I seem to never follow that advice.

Thanks all! Building a base will be the name of the game for awhile.
