Ran the Enoch 5k today. Was a great way to start the July 4th holiday, no doubt about that. The race was ran well, nice small town feel. It was cool when I arrived at 6:30, but soon the sun came over the Mtn. and it got HOT! I went into this knowing I wasn't prepared to do my best 5K. I also knew the course was tough, I ran the 10K a few years ago. High altitude, incline and dirt for about 1/2 the course. Since I'm training for the SG Marathon, I've been mostly focused on mileage lately and most of them have been easy, slow miles. Usually before a 5K I really work on speed more and run more quick 4 mile runs about 3 weeks leading up to the race. Not this time. I didn't even decide for sure that I would do this race until yesterday. That being said, my time was 2 minutes slower than my last 5K (PR). Even unprepared, I really wanted to get at least close to 26 min. flat. I haven't run a 5K this slow in over a year. Oh well. I learned a lot from this run. You can't have your cake & eat it too. If you want to run a good 5k, you must PREPARE! Oh, yeah- the 10 yr. age divisions didn't help me much either. If I was a year older I could've taken a 2nd, but my time would've still been slow- so not much satisfaction in that. OK- enough of my belly aching. I'm ready to take the kids to the park for the July 4th festivities then onto the Lake- enjoy the holiday with my family! Hope everyone out there has a GREAT JULY 4th! LET FREEDOM RING! |
