Finally! I really felt I had a sub-18 in me before winter and finally my health and the weather lined up. I signed up for this one knowing that it would be flat, relatively close to home, and cheap. I knew going in that there would be lots of 90 deg turns but figured it a good course to hit your tangents well. I warmed up a mile be for the race and got things ready to go (shorts, tech-t, sleeves and of course my Crocs). As they were getting ready to start the race I realized that I let my garmin time out (Crap!) It took about 10 seconds into the race before I could actually hit start.
Mile #1 - 5:41 - not too many turns this mile and all is feeling well. I believe my position in the race is settled at this point.
Mile #2 - 6:09 - there were lots of turns in this mile but I think the marker was off. My garmin was putting my pace in the 5:40-5:50 range.
Mile #3 - 5:31 - yes the mile 2 marker was off. I certainly didn't drop 38 seconds off my pace. Everything is still in check and all feels well.
0.1 - 31.95 - (5:19) pace - As the time clock came in sight I saw 17:46 and made certain to give a good kick to keep it under 18. Mission accomplished.
I had fun chatting with Chad before and after the race, and spoke briefly with Rob who got to watch his kids run the kid's dashes. I was awarded a pumpkin pie for my second in age division finish. I can now rest easy during the winter knowing that I got a sub-18 under my belt. Now it is time to get ready for Ogden.
8:18 pm - 7.25 miles @ 7:21 pace - 53:18.48 - I nice evening run (other than some GI issues) in nice weather.
