Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Hi, well, recovered of sorts, still coughing and sore throat, but rested nearly all weekend, except for footy watching on a cold pitch!

Had a lovely sleep at last 9 hours, yay.

So I warmed up on the xtrainer 10 good mins.

4miles easy running, just under 8 mins pace, through Sand dunes, along beach and through woodland paths.

4 x 1 mile!  3 mins jogging recovery, straight into the jog no rest.

5.50 mins, (Gr8 wanted to aim about 6 mins really)

5.42,  5.44,  5.39 so great result, with coughing and spluttering, legs felt a bit empty near the end of each one, but that might be from being so tired recently.

1 mile easy jog, really slow, as I was feeling it in my calves. total time running 1hr 25 mins

good 25 mins on the xtrainer to ease those calves.

10 mins hard step ups with light weights. stretch

ice bucket ouch, cold today.

All in all, a cold crisp day nearly no wind, and great training finally, some hard sessions to come, I start off with 4 reps and build up each week 1 extra, upto 7-8 mile reps at this sort of pace fingers crossed then.

So another 2 hours of exercise!

Oh to be able to run a sub 6 mile again. I can barely do a sub 7 now. I just need to keep training, but I'll never be as cool as you.

Glad you are feeling at least a little better and got a good night sleep.

Wow, nice 1M splits...even more impressive that you are still not 100%. Very impressive!

With those types of splits, you should be able to throw down a wicked 5K/10K race as part of your training. What is your next race?

ta burt, my last marathon training I did 8 of these reps all around 5.30 pace, but it went down hill from there, I was ready for a great pb 3 weeks later over 10k, and buggered it all up, no sleep, stress of work and family life, and arriving late at the race, running across a muddy field to the start as the gun went off!.

JT, thanks, not sure on a 10k maybe just before my half marathon Wilmslow on the 29th March, so not long need to get some really good weeks in now!

I always seem to do great training times then it isnt reflected in races, really on my 8x 1 mile for the marathon indicated an easy sub 3hr, but I had probs before that too!

Good luck at the half. As part of your training, what kind of long endurance work do you do? Your speed seems to be there over the short/mid range runs, but are you doing enough endurance and work to keep your stamina for the 26 miles? It doesn't have to be fast (though long progression runs are great!) but you need to train your body to be ready for 3 hours on the road and be able to manage your fuel/carbs for this long.

Just a thought.

JT,

Yep been doing 15-16 mile long runs, for the half marathon, I wont start my training for the Marathon till 3 months before, as I am doing Berlin in end of September, SO I will start marathon training the end of June, I usually build up my mileage to 75 miles p week, inc the long run, which will start at 15 miles, and work upto 23/24 mile run, and I will do at least four 23/24 mile runs before the marathon!

I am lucky enough that I will go down to 3 days a week working too, June 20th this starts, so I can train in the morning, rest eat and train again in afternoon, also enable me to rest more.

Thanks for your thoughts tho JT, it all helps, as long as I hold injuries and illness off, I am ok, but thats the same with everyone!
