6 EZ miles this morning less than 12 hours after hard marhton paced run last night.

Legs felt great, foot not so much.  Foot pain 9/10 for first mile, grudually improved to about 2/10 by the end.  Once again any left turns cause the pain to spike a few points.

Wow I am sure I would not have gone a whole mile in 9/10 pain but it did drop fast. Are you using any kind of wrap for support? Maybe that knew funky colored tape would help?

From rhett on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 13:08:30

I've been thinking about trying that new tape. Do you have any experience with it. Yeah, I almost stopped my run after the first hundred yards or so and then determined to try out a mile and see if it improved. I'm glad I stuck it out, but I think I looked funny running with a limp for that first bit.

From Kathie on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 14:08:49

I have never tried it but BEMO on the other forum has. I think she really liked it.

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 14:24:16

Rhett...That's a real bummer. Have you decided if you're going to Boston?

From rhett on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 14:46:21

Dale, during the first mile of my run this morning I decided I would withdraw from Boston. By the end of my run I decided I could handle the pain and will still do Boston. I may change my mind 100 times between now and then. If I don't cancell my hotel by Feb. 5 then I will be out my $235 deposit if I cancell. I hope to be more firm on my decision before then, but probably won't be.

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 14:53:26

It's a tough call...You never know, your foot may be better by then. That's a lot of money to lose. Maybe you should wait until the last minute to decide.

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 15:08:23

Rhett,

May be you should talk to a sport MD. I have read somewhere that if the pain is there during the warm up and goes away once the muscles/tendons are warmed up; it is likely an inflammatory response. Do some research on it and see what's the best rehab approach. The current RW has an article on the Kinesio tape. Try PM Slick and MarcE about sharing a room. Last year they had Tim for their "room-mate". This year Slick's son is not coming. It's just a thought; if you decide to cancel the hotel room and end up going and don't mind sharing room. I sure hope you find solutions to getting that left foot/ankle heal up good. Best wishes!

From Tim P on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 21:12:33

Rhett - be careful with that foot. It is a hard call on what to do with it. I fought what sounds to be a similar inflammation two years ago at this time. It surely wasn't fun being less than 100%, especially being locked into a race.

From Teena on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 11:06:21

Rhett,

I know exactly what you mean about Boston. I have gone through the same stuff in my head ... because this is suppose to be my first and best, right? The main thing that keeps me going right now is Smooth!! Sharing Boston with her is a dream. I keep putting off buying my plane tickets though.

I'm with Smooth, I think you need to see a sports doc. I called mine again yesterday.

From rhett on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 12:10:01

Tim, thanks. So did you end up having to quit running a while for it to go away?

Teena and Smooth, your right, but I am stubborn and am trying to deal right now. I'm thinking I may be able to talk my podiatrist into a cortisone shot that would carry me over through Boston, then I will take some time off to let it heal.

Ack ACK ACKKK!!! That doesnt sound good Rhett. Get it checked out man. And RICE it.
