This race was not my best, but it was what I should have expected after having spend most of the summer bike riding in preparation for the LOTOJA. I ran the first 17 miles at 7:33 (128 minutes) and the remaining 9 miles in 92 minutes. Calf and chest cramps and exhaustion. Heat and dehydration were factors. Awesome marathon though. Next time.

Shooting for an easy 25 miles this week with a good long bike ride on Saturday. Should have iced the foot over the weekend (left foot, big toe knuckle). Amazing what a difference that makes. Felt a little twinge this morning, but iced after and will tonight and will probably be good for 10 tomorrow morning. That's the goal. Signed up for the Striders Winter Racing Circuit over the weekend.

Yes. The rear is back in gear. Now I have to get the quads recovered from Saturday. But things are coming together. I've started running mostly on the treadmill but I feel like a whimp because I hate running in the dark and cold.

I'm not sure I can really call these easy miles. I hiked with three other freinds to the top of Chinscraper summit starting in the dark at 7am. We climbed 4,000 feet and then ran down the other trail back to the base. Awesome. I love running on the trail. However, I'm paying for it now with soreness!

From Dorsimus on Mon, Nov 08, 2010 at 12:35:09 from 75.162.152.180

Do you start Chinscraper from the Fernwood trailhead? I live in Fruit Heights, so my usual run is along the BST starting in Kaysville, but I've usually only run about 5 miles in, which takes me up the Great Western just a little, and then running back (Its a good 10 miles that you can run almost the entire time). Looking forward to exploring the trails around here more, so I like to learn what I can - though a lot of the exploring will probably have to wait for spring!

From ReedRunner on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 21:20:27 from 67.42.121.184

Yes we started from Fernwood. If you head North toward the Castle house, there is what appears to be a dirt road that takes off sharply to the right just at the top of the hill and not yet above the house. This is a steep way to get up to Chinscraper summit (and when you get to the top the trail is not obvious to a first timer). We dropped over the top of Chinscraper and came down the other side and down the Great Western Trail. Alternatively you can go on the trail past the castle house, cross the bridge and up the hill to the Great Western fork. Take the right fork and all the switchbacks up to the old hunting camp (metal chair hanging from the pines) at the base of Chinscraper. Beautiful climb. You can run fast down that northern side!

Every mile at .9 I jumped off the treadmill (Sportsplex in Kaysville) and ran downstairs, around the basketball court and back up to the treadmill and then continued. cranked it to 9.9mph for the last 1/2 mile because I knew it was time to go, but I wanted to get in at least 6 miles.

After beating up my legs on the slopes the last two days and feeling a bit under the weather, I thought I'd take it easy today. But the treadmill I got on gave me 99 minutes instead of the usual 60 (which I can just restart) before auto stopping. So in a moment of excitement at this opportunity to see what I could do in 99 minutes I reset my goals and completed 12 miles. In minute paces I ran 10, 9, 8:34, 8:27, 8:20, 8:13, 8:06, 8, 7:47, 7:30, 7:03, 7. From about mile 2 through mile 7 I dialed up the incline on the the first 1/4 mile to 5.0 to similute some hill climbing and ended up climbing 600 feet over the course of the run. Good day. I even had a slight cold last night and I think it blew that out of my system.
