back to the pavement for the first time in weeks. decided to continue the lieberman/chi running experiment by using my lightest, lowest heel flat I have, the brooks T4. I really love that shoe. So I did 0.2 slow then picked it up for what I intended to be a 5K tinman tempo, employing the chi running technique. Ended up easily running the 5K at a 6:33 pace, feeling at the end I could have gone on for several more miles at that pace. quite happy given I haven't done any speed or tempo work in ages and after time off. I am starting to gain confidence in the chi approach- it certainly did not affect my speed at a tempo pace. Question is whether the leg and foot can handle higher mileages with these minimalist shoes I am using, especially if I run more on pavement? I will take the mileage up slow and watch the leg carefully, but right now everything feels fine. |
