9:00am

This was the second race in the 2009 Resolution Run Series. My goals today were to beat my previous 10k PR and maybe even finish at a sub-7 minute pace. The first half of the course felt really good and I was on target with a time of 21:21 at the turn around point. The second half was a lot more difficult and although I didn't have any serious aches or pains, my legs felt really heavy and my lungs felt like I was dragging them behind me. On mile five I passed an old guy (probably in his late 50s) that has been kicking my butt in this race for 5 years and that gave me the boost I needed to hold my pace through to the end. I finished in 42:40 with a negative split by 2 seconds. I met my goals today, smashed my previous 10k PR by over 3 minutes and nothing hurts...yet.

Pace: 6:52

Impressive race...you're showing great improvement. Stay consistent in training and you'll shatter your marathon time as well.

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel good about my progress, but these last two races have been a lot of work. I still have a long way to go for that 3:20 marathon.

Looks like you have a nice start by getting in a lot of 6-mile runs. Keep them consistent and over time gradually build up to some 7-10 mile runs. Everything will get easier. 42:40's a great time!

p.s. Nice organization you're involved with...you guys have a great witness.

I was planning to keep doing at least 5 days on and one day off with the 6 milers and bump one of those days up to an 11.2 mile course that I like a lot(The Giant Killer) in February. I stopped doing my long runs when I started trying to do more consecutive days in a row so I wouldn't increase my mileage too fast. I'm getting anxious to run longer; By the end of March I'd like to be doing 7 or 8 miles 5 days in a row and a long run too.

CMA is a great organization to be a part of. It has been a tremendous blessing to be able to serve with them. Sometimes I wish my biker friends understood the running thing though. I really need all the prayer I can get to pull this off by June.

You crushed it, man. Great job! Pretty inspirational.

sounds like a good plan...lots of folks get hurt by trying to do too much too soon.

Awesome job! It's great to get a new PR and feel your training pay off. Good luck with your marathon training, this 10K time looks promising.
