9:00am Acts 11 - Romans 7

Shooting for 7:10 pace today and nailed it on average.

The good: My foot was fine and the GU trial also went well. "Espresso Love" is the ticket, not too pasty or sweet. "Jet Blackberry" tasted great going down at mile 5 and 2 miles later I got to taste it again. Not so great the second time around. At mile 10 I had another Espresso love and it managed to bury the blackberry burps.

The bad: It was too cold and icy out to test drive my race shorts and figure out how to carry 4 packets of GU. Sweats, gloves, hand warmers, and a beanie was the uniform today :( I also had a number of phantom pains during the run, left knee, right calf, left ankle, all of which passed, but were still annoying.

The ugly: I didn't notice any increased energy level from taking the GU on this run. I was hoping it would tip the scales and make MP seem a little easier, especially for a short 15 miles. The worst thing was having to stop about the time the work will start in Boston. I really wanted to keep going, but I am trying to be good and stay on my taper plan.

If I ever start a rock band I'm going to name it "Phantom Itch".

if i ever start a rock band i am going to name it "garbage legs"

nice job with the run today. i'm glad you stuck to your plan and stopped at 15. i can see you going 10 more just for fun :)

no worries about the phantom pains -- they always get scared off at the starting line. you are going to do great.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 12:44:37 from 98.247.27.122

We should have Burt design us some concert T-Shirts. We could pre-sell them to pay for our music lessons.

Phantom Limb is a pretty good album by the shins. There's a lot of running and amputee fodder...

From Kam on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 13:03:07 from 68.66.163.179

Oops. I mean song.

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 13:04:11 from 71.219.98.16

Proud of you for being GOOD and stopping! And, if you do not see a benefit in taking the GU, I would not mess with them!! If you do choose to bring them, tie those shorts TIGHT. I can attest to the fact that 4 GU's will pull your shorts down. Those suckers are heavy!

Phantom pains are NORMAL, no worries. You are one ready racer if I have ever seen one. Just FLOAT from here on out. So excited to see how you do. Are ya gonna go next year? Scott finally got that second BQ so we could go again!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 13:36:33 from 98.247.27.122

Kam - That reminds me of a horrible, I mean great B movie called Armless. If you get bored check it out on Hulu or Netflix and tell me what you think :)

Kelli - That cracks me up! I can picture you running in "gangster pants" hahaha. Unfortunately, I doubt I will be able to afford another trip to Boston in '13. Although, that is what I said about this year too. I'd love to meet you and Scott and collect that cookie you owe me. I have not forgotten :)

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 15:48:46 from 71.219.98.16

It was actually a plaid skirt that was falling off. I looked like a catholic schoolgirl losing her britches. It was not fun. BUT because of that experience, the next year I carried no GU and paid for it in a far worse way. I need my caffeine! I am a junkie.

You did indeed say it was a one time thing! We are already saving up, it is part of the reason I now work part time (that and Disneyworld).

I will totally bring you a cookie (or a dozen), but I do seem to recall mailing you some!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 16:22:24 from 174.233.128.92

Kelli - I do remember that and my wife thought it was a little strange too :) I also remember those cookies being a substitute for the giant Kneaders sugar cookie that you didn't think would survive the trip in the mail. I've been craving one of those since then...

From Tom Slick on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 16:52:02 from 69.171.160.2

Great trainer....super splits. Looks like your now on cruse control for Boston. Dont let the taper crazies get to you. All those phantom aches and pains will disappear in 10 days!

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 18:00:07 from 71.219.98.16

I am indeed strange! But when I promise cookies, I deliver. I hope she dared to try one.

A Kneaders cookie would NOT taste good even a day later. You are gonna have to come to Utah for that. Come visit, I will buy you a dozen!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 18:56:12 from 174.253.193.67

Tom - Thanks, I'm sure those pains are nothing to worry about, but they sure are annoying.

Kelli - Be careful what you ask for. You might find a couple scroungy bikers at your door if I'm ever in the neighborhood :)

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 06, 2012 at 22:37:53 from 71.219.98.16

We would welcome ya!

I just thought of something---are you not wearing THE shorts in Boston?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 06:56:18 from 174.253.193.67

Kelli - I AM wearing THE shorts and THE shirt for Boston and Big Sur. Why do you ask?

From Kelli on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 13:29:13 from 71.219.98.16

When you said you needed to test drive your race shorts I thought that meant you had NEW race shorts. I am so happy that you are sticking with your awesome outfit. It just would not be the same.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 13:34:09 from 174.253.193.67

Kelli - Same shorts, just never tried carrying GU packets in/on them. I'm thinking I might just duct tape them to the waist band :)

From Kelli on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 13:44:26 from 71.219.98.16

I think they sell hates that can carry them. Or special belts. ;o) I have seen people wearing them on both, kind of funny looking, but you do what works. And if means keeping your shorts ON, it is worth it.

From april27 on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 20:41:29 from 99.188.251.180

When did you start eating GU? I never thought it helped!

From Burt on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 21:18:47 from 72.223.93.158

Shirts in the mail.

I just googled Catholic school girls losing their britches.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 07:45:22 from 174.253.201.67

Kelli - Thanks for the tip. I found the perfect hat! http://www.swallowfood.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/beer-hat-top-10-headwear.jpg

April - Sometimes I take gu if it's available at the water stations, but the last time I got stuck with some orange stuff that was really gross.

Burt - I hope that's not the name of your band.

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 09, 2012 at 09:54:45 from 71.219.98.16

I dunno, GU is kind of thick to suck through a straw. I can see it getting stuck as it travels.
