I ran my Payson Park loop today and my legs seem to be coming back just a bit which is a good sign. After mile 5 I realized I was running to fast so I reeled myself in just a bit, I was averaging an 8:16 mile for the first 5 miles and that is more of a tinman tempo pace than an easy pace, so I slowed down those last 2 miles . My average pace was 8:25 with my HR average at 146 total time was 1:00:12, my IT-band was okay it really didn't bother me although I could still feel it just a bit, but it didn't seem to hinder me in any way so I am hoping that it is slowly getting better;-) I finished up with some strength training on my upper body and then rolled my leg, iced my IT-band as well, thats about it... I am hoping that I am over the dead leg issue but we shall see, you never know with this old running game it can be brutal at times!

I ran out towards Mini GU corner, dead legs were back but they didn't really start bothering until I had about a mile left, it feels like they are just totally bonked out! The first 6 miles I did on my own and then I ran a mile with Ethan, he was having some motivation issues so I ventured out about 50 yards ahead of him just to see what he would do and then sure enough he comes flying by me and as he was passing me he said "I'm not letting an old man beat me"! It was pretty comical. My average pace was 8:53 with my HR average at 136, total time for the seven miles was 1:02:33. IT-Band was about like it always is just kind of there, but my dead legs just sucked... Loafer to the mailboxes tomorrow morning, should be a great time!

I ran my mailbox loop this morning, ran into Tyler S and we chatted for just a moment, and then I headed up to the mailboxes. IT band felt pretty good I didn't have to stop and stretch like last week and once I reached the mailboxes I ran a little ways up woodland hills drive and then back down. When I reached canal road I extended out to the old barn and then headed for home, I tried not to push the pace on the way down but I did have a 8:00 minute mile in there along with a 7:26 minute mile too. I'm pretty happy about the way it turned out and my IT band seemed to cooperate for the most part so that is a good sign. My average pace was 8:28 with my HR average at 145 topping out at 160, total time was 1:00:58, I hope I am on the tail end of this darn thing. I finished up with some strength training on my upper body on the Bowflex.

I ran my Mini GU corner route today, kept it nice and easy average pace was 8:54 so just right, average HR was 139 and total time was 53:34. After returning home my son Ethan wanted to run 2 miles so we headed out towards the Stake center and he wanted to know what the mile race would feel like and I basically told him that the pace would be quicker and I told him that he could not be chicked and if he was chicked I wanted him to put up a good fight and make her work for it! HAHA... So with about a half mile to go I should him the finish line and told him to let it rip and he just took of, I tried to stay with him but I couldn't... My legs were kind of tired but I don't think it would have made a difference if they were fresh, we ran that mile in just under 8:30 but the last half was under 8:00 for sure! After that we talked about race strategy and he was excited about racing in two weeks, its really good to see I think all the running is starting to make him feel good and he is gaining some confidence;-) We took it real slow on the way back but our average for the 2 miles was right at a 9:00 mile, so I'm pretty proud of him.

I ran out towards Payson today but my goal was to take it easy and not run more than 3 or 4 miles and just keep the pace nice and easy, I think I was able to do that... Average pace was 8:48 with my HR average at 138 total time was 35:25, my IT Band was pretty good today, no pain. I will be testing it out on a long run tomorrow, hopefully a 15 miler, and then I think that will be the true test and I'm crossing my fingers;-) I haven't noticed my Planters the last week either so I feel like I am on the road to recovery, knock on wood of course.
I finished up with some upper body weight training on the Bowflex and iced and rolled my leg, see ya tomorrow |

I headed out towards mini GU corner but when I hit my 2 mile mark I stopped and stretched and Pat Loss and the boys were running by and I asked him if he had seen my Brother Curtis but he hadn't. So I headed up over Harry's Hill and then down to the stake center and Pat hooked me up with some fluid and invited me to run with them out to Osborne's (GU Corner) so I did and we started to push the pace towards the end, well the pace was hard for me but they weren't even breathing hard, and then we hit GU corner and there was my brother. I hooked up with him around the Golf Course and then back to GU corner and then I fueled up again and headed for home. My IT Band held up really good, especially for running up Harry's Hill and then the downward route to the stake center, there was some uphill around the golf course as well and by the time I hit home I was feeling it! My legs held up better than I thought they would but I am very tried as I write this, I had to go to a Baptism so I am alittle late getting my entry in... My Garmin ran out of battery at mile 4.50 so with the help of everyone else's watches and my mile markers I was able to compute the distance, I will test it in my truck just to make sure a little later, so I don't have any info. I really didn't push the downhill at all and mostly tried to take it easy, I'm still not to confident with the old knee and I want to bring it along slow. I think I would have done better had I not ran Harry's and then pushed the pace with Pat and the boys, but it was a good workout and that is what counts.
See ya on Monday.
PM-After using my truck to measure my distance from where my Garmin lost it's battery power I actually ran 18.2 miles, know wonder my legs were so freaking tired! That was alittle more than I should have run today, oh well it worked out! No major injuries just real tired legs, but the good kind of tired legs;-) |
