I ran the Salem days 5K today my first 5K ever. I had a few goals in mind today but I kind of let things get away a little but I did the best that I could. My son Ethan did really well for the mile that he did, he took 4th place over all and 2nd in his age division with a 6:10 minute mile. Wow! I was really proud of him and he was excited to which made it even funner;-) My splits went something like this; 7:36 (154), 7:08(165), 7:06(170).12 6:28(171) The first mile was uphill and I just couldn't get going and I couldn't get my breathing under control, but after it leveled out then I started feeling better. I was impressed with the last mile as my pace was a little faster and it was a little uphill. All in all I felt pretty good with the effort, but it was really cool seeing my son do so well. My knee felt really good, both of them, so I hope to have a better week of training next week, so it should be good.

See ya on Monday.

Great race! It is so hard to start a race (or a run) on an uphill, you never seem to get the groove going.

CONGRATS to your son, how old is he? That is an awesome mile.

Kelli, My son Ethan is 11 years old, and I think he was holding back because of his friend and then his friend ended up winning by just a half a second at the end. My son is to nice.

WOW, great race time for an 11 year old! Hopefully he learned not to hang back. But, I have to say that sometimes letting a friend wins just makes you feel good!!! Other times, you wonder what you were thinking!

Rambo rocked the race - 500 commando points for the PR and 1st place. Did you get some hardware. Hey, your son has talent, he gets 1,000 commando points, rocking race.

Clay, when did you make this post, checked on you saturday, no entry. Good to see your keeping your speed while getting over injury.

Brent- I posted on Saturday... That's weird that it wasn't showing, I was trying for 22 minutes but that first mile was uphill and I just couldn't get a good rhythm going.

My son is amazing and he's a good kid with a big heart, he enjoyed the race too which is kind of weird;-) He wants to run the 5K next year so we are going to work on it a little more.

Thanks for checking in.
