I was only able to do 35:00 minutes on the ellipitical today as my leg was very sore, not a good sign... I tested it last night for two miles and it has not healed at all, after 9 days of crosstraining I thought there would be some progress but it is very discouraging.... During the crosstraining it was not giving me any problems but it is not healing either, so that is not a good sign either.

I have until the 15th of September to cancel my rooms in St. George and get a full refund, so that is kind of my last chance so to speak whether I will be able to run the Marathon or not. I am thinking of suspending all training period to see if that will help with the healing process... I have come so far.  Man,  this is very disappointing and hard to take...

PM- I decided to try something this afternoon when running with my son, I ran at a much slower pace and my leg seemed to do alot better, we only went 2 miles but my leg has already recovered and is feeling pretty good... We averaged a 9:40 pace, I know it was slow but I was amazed that my leg did so much better. So I am going to try this tomorrow morning, a slower pace taking it easy and see how I do and see how I recover. I will then incorperate the ellipitical in with running to see if I can find a balance, and also heal along with that. I will also evaluate on a day to day basis to see where I can improve the formula atleast until I am fully healed... Hopefully I will not regret it down the road for this bold undertaking, wish me luck...

I would offer some encouraging words but I know that they would ring hollow. I've been there and it really sucks to put in so much work and get to a point of feeling good about your fitness only to be knocked down with an injury. Look at what Paul went through last year only to come back stronger and faster. Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks Andy... I appreciate the kind words, and your right this does Suck!!

There is absolutely no need to run any faster than 9:40 for you right now. You can maintain your aerobic fitness very well. I would recommend canceling your St. George entry. There will be many marathons after that - Valley of Fire, if you want to travel, Richmond, St. Jude's in Memphis,TN or Rocket City in Hunstiville, AL. You can really blow up big time in a marathon even when things are just slightly off, and much more when they are seriously off.

Clay, hum, I was in the similar situation as you, hurt in August, what to do. See the doctor as you mentioned. I would not blow off St.George until you see what the doctor says. If you can keep up your cardio, you can still run St.George for the experience if you get healed up. My advice, spinning classes or hard uphill bike rides. You need to work extra hard if it does not bother your leg. Good luck.

Please! Run only on grass or track!

From Clay on Thu, Aug 23, 2007 at 13:31:00

I have consulted a Doctor and he is going to put me in a boot for two weeks, I keep tearing the ligiments and the tissue and so it never has a chance to heal... So I guess that seems to be the best course of action at this point. After the 2 weeks I will then see where I am and if I can still run the SGM. He seems to think that this will work and I trust the guy, so I will keep you up-dated on my progress...

Thanks for all the concern and good advice, you guy's are great. You to Lybi!

Clay, it sounds like you have a chance to run St. George. Just my thoughts, I love the St.George marathon, I would run it at 11 minutes miles if needed. But, you would want any long last injuries. Good luck. By the way, our times were pretty close at the Provo Half, I would have said hello if I could have recognized you.

From Clay on Thu, Aug 23, 2007 at 15:38:49

What is your blog address? That is really wierd that we didn't know each other or recognize each other, good job on the Half it was a PR for me... I was even dealing with my leg when I ran that so I was real satisfied with my time...

Thanks for all the good advice, and I still think I can do St George too. I have talked to alot of good runner who say I won't loose my fitness, its mostly mental.

Thnaks Again.

Clay, BS Rools, address, not fast enough to be fast and not slow enough to be slow. Always somewhere in the middle.

I had a thought, it seems all the bloggers that run St. George should consider meeting after the race? James from Arizona seems to be pretty close to our possible finishing times.

From Clay on Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 12:03:39

Ya, James is a good guy I ran with him in the Riverwoods 10 Miler in june, but he is a hair faster than me...
