Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Did kick-boxing today and as part of our circuit we ran outside 3 or 4 times so I'm counting it as a 1/2 mile. Did it with the new form, but I'm not sure if I'm exaggerating it too much or not, but I think its better than not, especially at the beginning :)

After Kickboxing I did my PT exercises for my ITB and then did the last 1/2 of ab's class. Stretched and came home. Another good day and I'm feeling good about life - I think I'm going to try a Memorial Day 5K, nice and easy of course...not running for the money :)

Also, I have not come back to comment on your race report. I just wanted to say A) I'm sorry about your IT band and B) it's ok not to rock your first Marathon because you will have something to 'beat' the next time you try it. You did it, and your time was truly respectable given your circumstnances. I hope you heal up fast. But I would not suggest a cortisone shot-- it covers up the problem and allows you to race on an injury which might become worse. Allow it to heal now that you are done and learn the right PT stretches for it. But Cortisone should be last ditch effort which MUST be accompanied by at least 3 weeks of no running (if you are serious about healing it). There are runners who use cortisone, I've had a shot in my foot for very painful fascitis-- but I rested for 3 weeks after the shot. I've never regretted letting it heal because I know so many people for whom it NEVER goes away. Heal thyself. YOu're going to be fine down the road. You Rocked your first Marathon!

Rachel, I think we ran a mile. It has to be at least a quarter of a mile each time. And we did it 4 times. Give yourself a MILE!!! We should bring our Garmin tomorrow before Yoga and go check. And you looked like a fast gazelle out there! If it feels better, do it!

The tri is ON. There is one in Vernal on June 13th that I am considering. You would have two options: Sprint, or Olympic. It depends on how my leg is feeling at that point to determine which course I will do.

Luzy, thanks!! As my rational thinking has come back to me I'm in the same mind set about it as you are. I'm getting the IT better and then the next marathon I'll kick my PR :)

Kelli- The run felt better, but did it LOOK better :) I kinda feel funny like I'm exaggerating it, but I think its better to start big then have small become permanent...who knows!

Bec- I'm there! Seriously, I could take the family and we'd have a blast. I'd have to bring my big 'ol mtn bike and everyone would be laughing, but hey - its all for fun! Send me a PM about details and what you're planning and I'll see what I can do to work out the kinks!

you'd better tell me if I looked like a goon!! Its hard, but I actually feel like I can go faster with less energy - which is why your SUPPOSED to run that way! Who knows though, maybe its just my fatigue factor from Saturday making me feel like I'm going fast.

Kelli - I was really surprised at the things they pulled out of my running analysis. I'd totally suggest it to ANYONE who has weird aches and pains, if they're bad enough you'd be willing to go through the crap to change anyway! Sometimes it may not be worth it!
