Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Happy Birthday to the Quiet Pirate!!

Everyone help me out by commandeering her 'vessel' today and sending her "haaarrrddy" birthday wishes!!!

Woke up to the pitter-pater of rain when I was going to run...so I went back to bed (we all know what a pansy I've become about bad weather!). I figured if I was going to run inside, I'd sleep and pay $2 extra for an hour more of daycare time and do it later. Now I wish I would've just gotten out and run - the rain wasn't that bad, and it stopped. Oh well...early morning rationalization always seems better then!

Went to the total body class where my legs and shoulders got a beating. Core work is getting SO much harder....plank today was sheer torture!

Both TM I tried to get on after class weren't working - I took it as a sign, recruited the aerobics teacher and went outside to the back ally again to do the 1/5 mile loops along the back. Finished 4 miles just up and back...up and back...it gets boring, but I had good conversation today which made a TON of difference.

Had to maximize the $2 extra I was now paying for an additional hour of day care, so I hopped on the elliptical for 40 minutes at L6. Almost done with my book and it was hard to bawl and 'elliptical' for the last 20+ minutes! :) Good book...true story..."Same Kind of Different as Me" definite thumbs up recommendation!

You need to fly to NC (not like you have a hubby and 4 kids) and I need to fly/drive to NC (because I don't have a hubby and 4 kids) and we need to do a fall marathon in that area.... for the QP's May birthday, of course...

From RAD on Tue, May 18, 2010 at 15:16:19 from 67.172.229.125

ohhhh....now THAT sounds like fun!

From KP on Tue, May 18, 2010 at 15:31:31 from 65.208.22.26

It does! I have no idea if anything is near or around Hope Mills, NC. I know DC has a few. That isn't really right next door though...

Maybe we can do the Myrtle Beach 1/2 or full next February. I've done that one before and it's GREAT!

I imagine that the plank is wicked hard when you're pregnant. Your abdominal muscles are otherwise engaged.

I think that sleeping in is worth it.

From Nancy on Tue, May 18, 2010 at 19:16:59 from 24.10.203.211

I'm glad you slept in. You need the sleep. I don't know how you can read and do the Elliptical. I plan on reading a few good books this summer while I'm off.

Way to go, Rachel!

You completely rocked the half on Saturday! I think you were the craziest prego lady out there by far. I kept looking for you at the end of the race but I could not find you to save the life of me. Another attempt of you meeting David. He still wonders and asks about the chocolate milk at times. I tell him that is your baby, your subject matter. I am not even going to try and tell him about it.

Nice recovery week. I have been eating a ton too! I think the stress being over of that race has taken me to the cupboard. Glad to hear I am not the only one. Are you going back to the BBKs ever? I keep swearing to myself that I will go back but then I am so tired. Then not running in the morning messed my entire schedule.... Anyway, just let me know. Sometimes I read my blog when I get the chance.

Do you ever slow down? You're amazing!

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 10:10:48 from 24.199.205.252

Oh RAD, your blog is so great. Thanks for the shout out. You had a great workout even after submitting to the will of the sleep-in monster.

I can't imagine what it would be like to hold plank position while being pregnant. The word impossible comes to mind.

I would love to have y'all come out for the OBX marathon in November. There's a 1/2 and a full, and it's pretty flat.

There's also the Ultra in September, a Myrtle Beach 1/2 in October, the Baltimore full/half in October, or the Myrtle Beach full/half in February. I think there's something in Charlotte in Dec/Jan too, but not sure on dates.

So I'll be waiting. I've got a babysitter for Running Bear :-)

I just tried the plank position to see what it feels like pregnant, yep, it's hard. Good workout today!

From RAD on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 10:46:30 from 67.172.229.125

Carolyn, yes the sleep was MORE than worth it!!

Nancy, I learned to read on the ellip while recovering from the SF - it's not easy, but I like it better than the bike.

Thanks Maurine!

Becca, I'm a little bummed I didn't get to see David and I can't believe you didn't stay for your hardware! I'm not sure about the BBK's until after baby...since I have to run alone anyway, it's easier to sleep in an hour and run a route out here alone. But, if I do I'll let you know!

Smooth, there is no rest for the wicked! :)

QP- had to get the word out about your birthday (since I'm a horrible sister and didn't get anything to you yet!). OBX in November actually sounds REALLY good! If I do SGM in October I think I could make it work to run the full with you....KP?!?

Michelle, yup! Wait until you've got a 5 pound 19 inch little one in there and try again - for the minute AND pushups AND arm weights my teacher has me do. I MUST be crazy (of course I did do it on my knees to help a bit!).

wow, what is crazy about that is the baby will be FIVE months old!! yikes...

Are you sure mini-me would be up for taking care of baby for 5 hours? I'm getting to think a little more seriously about this, because if she would I could come 'alone' and take a little trip....

From KP on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 18:21:47 from 69.255.142.204

Seriously... let me know! I would LOVE to! I just looked and OBX is a 13 hour drive from Huntsville. I might fly that one... What is the closest airport to QP? This is right around the timeframe for one that I want to do. If I have a "definite" I might actually buckle down on my training a little...
