Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Scared of the snow and rain I decided to hit spin class this morning, and put off the run. Took it easy on class, no big pushes, just enough to wake my legs up :) Plus, it was the 90 minute class that is only once a month - can't pass that up!

Did the run in the nice sun and a cool breeze in the afternoon. We had a family dinner in West Jordan so I ran from Butterfield Canyon (almost home) down Bacchus to New Bingham Hwy, down to Copper Hills HS then north on Grizzly Way to my in-laws.

If you've ever driven past the dump on Bacchus you know that it is in the bottom of a HUGE dip - the hill coming out of the dump was a killler! I didn't care the pace, the goal was just to NOT walk. It consequently made that mile very slow :)

Had a water stop at mile 5, and an EMERGENCY potty stop at Arctic Circle - the first building I encountered - at mile 7. One nice thing about running on Bacchus is that I love the looks you get from drivers...you are out in the middle of NO WHERE! It's the 'where did you come from and how long are you running till you get there?' look. Helps put some energy in my step :) Bad part: NO bathrooms or anything (even bushes!) - this was a serious issue, I'm honestly feeling good about the SLC 1/2 and I know I can make the mileage now (w/out pain and killing myself) - but ONLY if I have a pair of depends on!! :)

AP: 9:16, splits: 9:02, 8:48, 9:41, 10:14 (Hill of DEATH!), 9:23, 8:57, 8:45, 9:02, 9:19, 9:26

Not to shabby! It's nice to have a downhill run to help the pace out. I honestly felt best during the 8:45 (mile 6-7) and the last 9:26 mile. Interesting to have the paces so different, but I really think it was the downhill that made the difference. I was just happy to finish and still feel good!!!

EXCELLENT 10 miler! I'll bet the passing motorists were shocked to see a pregnant woman running in the middle of nowhere! You're amazing! Great confidence builder for SLC. Happy Easter!

Awesome run. You will do great at the half. I need to make it my new goal to "do better than the pregnant woman" because sadly you are kicking my butt day after day. Keep up the good work! It gives me better goals ;-)

KP - I totally just laughed SO loud I thought I woke up my kids :) With my last pregnancy I didn't run (wasn't a 'runner' then), but we were putting in our yard. My neighbor would always say the same thing - "I come to help you and I'M the one that goes home sore - I can't believe a pregnant woman is out-working me!"

I guess my body kicks into some crazy high gear when I'm pregnant. Except when it comes to housework...

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm just having a good month - wait till July, I'll be 'dead to the world' that month!

Wow you are awesome. You can go 10 miles faster pregnant than I can when I'm going as hard as I can. I went past the dump when I took my grandkids home but I didn't see you.

Devine Miss M - nice pace on the killer hill, have ran that hill, I used to run from 3400 west and 90000 up to copperton and home, it is weird runnng on those roads. Your right about SL Half, not enough potty stops, hard to make a made dash to the bushes in someone's yard, well, I hate to admit, I have had to take that course a couple of times. Well, I will look for you at the half, I will be wearing purple calve sleeves, don't know about the du rag. I don't thing depends are the answer, carrying a load for miles? May hurt your race time.

Nancy, it was all the downhill! When I do flat I can barely make a 10mm!!

Brent, I pride myself on having the 'iron bladder' but a 2+ pound baby bouncing on mine for 5 miles did me in yesterday!! Thankfully I wasn't 'carrying the load' :)

I'm still not sure what I'll wear to SLC 1/2 - depends on weather, but I'll let you know and keep my eyes out for the purple calves!

Michele, thanks! It was a good run - minus the potty issues, watch out they hit you out of nowhere when the baby moves position!!

Becca, it was a good run, and like I said I've been afraid of those double digits, but I'm feeling much more confident now! Especially downhill :)
