Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Do you know how amazing it is to know that your feet can carry you 20 miles?!? Wow, I feel so accomplished today I feel like I need a medal :) - (I already rewarded myself with french fries and icecream).  I ran from my house in Herriman to my mom's house in West Valley along Bacchus Hwy. It was so invigorating...when I was done. I had to scream (with joy) when the garmin clicked over to that 20.0 and I got to stop! I did a few water drops yesterday and I got really worried because the first stop my water was frozen nearly solid. I was banging it on the concrete to break it up enough to get the middle out to get a few sips with the GU. This was the first time I'd used GU (Power Bar variety), and I could feel an energy difference, but a mile after the second one (1@ 7; 2@ 13.5) my tummy was telling me I'd had enough, so I didn't do the 3rd one when I had planed at 17, I just had water. The water at the other 2 drops was fine, not even icy. Everyone tells me that 20 is the wall at a marathon, but today it was about 15 for me. I just couldn't believe I was still so far away, my knees were hurting my tummy ached and I thought about stopping, but when I stopped at 16.8 I knew I only had 3 to go and it was easy to rationalize going that far after a short water stop and stretch...especially knowing it was all downhill from here! My AP for the run was 9:07 - I was really suprised by that, because Bacchus has some GOOD hills, even going 'down' it. I thought I'd be closer to a 10 mm. I did start out slow, but I guess its just the Kenyan in me :)

Here are my splits 1-9:42

2-9:27

3-10:14

4-9:45

5-8:21 (I finally felt warm and ready to run!)

6-8:45

7-8:41

8-9:12 (dodging cars in the mud on Bacchus, one time I came out of it with an extra 5 pounds on my shoes!)

9-8:43

10-9:00

11-9:21 (hitting those hills for this one and the next three!)

12-9:31

13-9:05

14-9:11

15- 9:23 (this was my wall! No hills, just bad mental capacity :(

16-8:43 (feeling much better - obviously!)

17-8:42

18-8:58

19- 9:06

20- 8:39 (Happy to be almost done, lets go!)

I had a great run, and now that I'm feeling a little recovered I'm feeling great and mentally ready to tackle 22 next :) However, first I'll scale back for a couple weeks and enjoy the cruise -- YEA!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Rachel, you rock! You deserve a medal! Those are awesome splits. You ran on the hwy alone and had the right of mind to remember where you dropped off your water bottles. AMAZING!!! You are so ready for Ogden. I have never come close to running that fast in a long run. Happy recovery and enjoy your cruise. You earned your 20 miler, baby! That's a HUGE accomplishment! GREAT JOB!!!!

Thanks! I had fun, people say races are faster, but I don't know if I could run any faster if I had to still go another 6! I had planned for about 10 days of where to drop water, so it was easy to remember :)

Great job sticking with it. Usually when I'm by myself on a long run, I quit before I get in the mileage I had planned. It's only other people that usually keep me going. So you did really awesome!

Devine Miss M - 200 mental commando points, darn tough lonely long distance runner. This run will pay big for the marathon.

YEE-HAW!! You ride em' cowgirl! You are the bomb, and you keep me motivated. Was that a solo run too? If it was...more power to you! You are going to kill your marathon.

For me the wall comes somewhere between 18-22 miles. You will be prepared for your wall, IF it even happens.

Great job Rachel. I know you'll be ready for the Ogden Marathon.
