Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Met the BBK's this morning and I nearly didn't go. Out here it was a sheet of ice with a little snow on top and I didn't want to get hurt trying to run on it, but when I got out just the few miles to Riverton the streets looked a TON better. So glad I didn't go back to bed. So, we met near O Roi Hardy Park and we started with our 'Kenyan' warm up. Slow, very slow - which actually felt great! Then we ended at the bottom of the Lampton hill, unfortunately I then knew what was in store! I have no earthly idea how many hill repeats/sprints we did, but it seemed to go on forever. I swear that someday those hills will not kick my butt!! We then did a 10 minute tempo run, which on my splits was 8:14. Yea, I can run after hills. I really felt great about the run today, it was hard, but I was just so happy about getting to get a good run in today I couldn't complain. I do also like pushing myself to see what I can do, its enthralling to push and get good results from it.

I then went to the gym for my appt with my trainer - took legs easy for the 'taper'. Did 45 minutes resistance training and then did intervals on the treadmill at 15% incline. Walk 2 min sprint 30 seconds (8:30 mm). Then I put it down to 2% and did a sprint (for me) at 8 mph for 2 minutes. It felt great at that speed and incline after doing the other. Walking and running was a total of 1.5 miles.

I'm getting really excited for Myrtle Beach and to see my sister, I just want to go to bed when I think about all I need to get done for my home/family before I go. I'm just so used to packing up and not worrying about anything here, but leaving everyone I feel I've got to get everything just right before I leave. Oh my, I better stop rambling and get to it!

WOW! Rachel, that's SOME MAJOR SERIOUS workout you did today. AWESOME run with hills and tempo and more at the gym. Glad to know you didn't get the "ugly". How's your little boy feeling today. I don't know how you busy moms with young children get so much done. AMAZING!!!

My advice is to take advantage of the treadmills at Lifetime (the lifefitness ones on the southeast side) and get in some decent extended miles at a 3% decline to get you ready for the extended downhills of the Ogden marathon. Based on these runs, you will get a better feel for what pace you can handle downhill.

Paul- Thanks for the advice! I live 'up' in Herriman, and I've thought about doing a few long down hill runs to JR. There would be some good declines, but most flat I think. The TM's at the gym I go to here also do the decline, I think I'll try it!! Thanks.

Smooth- The resistance was actually pretty easy, it was all the up hill running. The 'ugly' hasn't come yet, but everyday when I think about it my throat starts to hurt, this is my mental powers at work. David is much better and even went to preschool today. Get so much done?? Have you seen my house lately? Too much to do, but I'm better at blogging :)

Great workout! We are seriously lacking hills here...I mean they are non existent. Next week my friend and I will run the parking garage and see how that works out!
