Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

BEST SATURDAY EVER!

WELL, FOR A LONG LONG TIME ANYWAY!

Got up early and hit the gym just after 6 and did 40 minutes of elliptical, once I saw people in the spin room I got nervous and cut out to go get my bike...I wasn't going to be the one burned again!

Spun with Bec and entertained her with my grunting, whining, screaming and heavy breathing. Oh, and some lady in there sat by the door (the only light) and READ a book during class! I wanted to knock that book out of her hands - if you can read, you're NOT working hard enough. I can barely keep my eyes open, usually they're closed as I writhe in pain!! Afterward we did the elliptical for an hour. It went SO fast!! The first time I peeked I only had 15 minutes left - legs were dead, but the good company kept me going!

To do my 20 minutes of walking I prefer to do 10% grade at 3 or so mph to feel like I'm working hard, but no treadmills were open or opening soon...so I headed to the track. I kept it a clean 20 minutes NO cheating! Tried to remember navel to spine (hahaha - maybe the BABY'S spine!) and quick turnover to not overextend my stride. Still hard, when I can't get that "I'm pushing myself" feel (like on the TM incline) I want to go fast and it plays brain tricks on me, but I was good - TOO good!

Said adios to Bec who was getting buff in the weight room and raced home to pick up a foster girl I work with on Saturdays. Turned around and headed down to JRP in Lehi to cheer in the long runners.

*as a side note here I MUST blog that this is the first long workout with spin that the ITB hasn't bothered me since the cortizone shot!! I was SO excited to walk down the stairs pain free and 'normal' at the LC that I mis-stepped about 2/3 the way down and in trying to grab the hand rail scraped my knuckles on the brick wall. I had to laugh, because I guess those stairs just have it out for me! :)

Got to Lehi a little early, so I decided we could head out on a short walk. I wasn't paying attention and 'slipped' off the edge of the pavement and totally twisted my ankle. It's not swollen now, but it hurts like a BUGGER!! Either way, walked a little (VERY slow) out and back to try to see the runners.

On the way back Teena passed us - She got first today :) Then came the rest of the crowd - Smooth, Kelli, Davey and Luz! It was SO SO SO fun and exactly what I needed to be able to sit and chat post run with them about all thing sugar, running, Boston and fun. I had a wonderful time!

Good workout and company during, good company afterward and an uplift of my spirits! Thanks to everyone for letting me tag along and entertain and be entertained by your loveliness!! I miss running, but I miss all of you more so having today meant the world to me!!

YAY for no pain (IT that is). You must have been way too excited to see all of your friends at the JRP, falling off the trail and all.

I LOVED our workout too. Spin was especially fun for some reason. One word...BOOK. What the h? I still can't get over that one.

Rachel ~ It was sooo good to see you! I so missed running with you! I can't believe you did 3 hours of workout, went home to get the girl and came back to Lehi to see us. You are one true blue friend. I'm happy to hear that the ITB behaved. Sorry about the ankle twist. Your baby boy is going to come out running and spinning! :)

Happy Devine Miss M - runners and spinners are almost safe from Mad Max, unless they are reading a book. Lazy farts should not be in spin classes, they are for crazy gym rats.

Allie, I'm actually a little worried about the ankle, because it's still pretty tender - especially with impact :( I'll rest tomorrow and see how it does! Just another bump in the road.

Bec, It was actually uneven pavement - luckily I didn't fall off the trail into the river too! :) Spin was fun because we got to look over and shoot dirty looks at the book reader :)

Smooth, it was great to see you too! I couldn't pass up an hour with friends - even if I did have to 'work'!

Brent, made me wonder if she took my bike on Thursday - maybe that's why I again got a good workout :)

I am glad your day went so well. Hopefully you can continue walking and increase your speed a little.

From Bec on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 20:19:56 from 76.23.55.210

Did you read about Brent's spin class @ Murray Park fitness center? Two classes back to back. Are you game? I am way down for that next Saturday if you are.

From Teena Marie on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 21:44:31 from 174.52.45.85

So happy for you. I'm glad you had an awesome day and have such good friends.

You must have some bad karma with those stairs at the gym...do you need to me send you a helmut to wear?? ;-)

Hope your ankle heals nicely ... really glad your IT didn't act up for you today...happy days are here again!

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 12:10:36 from 71.219.89.82

I'm glad you felt so good today. Good workout.

From RAD on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 23:19:35 from 67.172.229.125

Carolyn, the ankle is still tender today - I'm a little frustrated with it honestly!

Michelle, I'm ready to add minutes. When I get to 45 min of walking then I get to run/walk!! YAY!!

Bec, Have to be home by about 8:45 next week - Primary Activity - so I have to do LC next week and I thought maybe the 90 min on 3/6 then see if we can join Brent the next weekend?

Teena, thanks for all the good advice. I'm trying to get some good red sausage time in :)

QP, maybe just a cork on a fork? :) I'm very happy about my IT as well - VERY happy day!

Kelli, It's SO crazy I can't figure the thing out, but I'm NOT complaining!

Nancy, thanks! It's fun to do long Saturday workouts again.
