Another long run today. I wasn't able to run Friday or Saturday so my week total fell to 50. I really wanted to be at 60.

This run was very similar to my long run two weeks ago. When I started I couldn't remember exactly what I had done but now realize I didn't start out quite so slow. Last time I started the first 5 miles with an 8:00 pace. On this run I started with a 8:15 pace. My pace was 1 second slower this time than before. That was okay but I really had to push on the last 5 miles to bring the average pace down to 7:43.

It seems like I have a long way to go, I feel I should be running this run with an average pace of 7:30.

I dunno, this run looks really good to me, it is 20 miles essentially at your PR marathon pace -- not only that but much faster to finish. I did a simmilar run on Saturday (although slower and at a fairly uniform speed), but probably neither one of us should be doing many 20-milers this close to GMP. I decided I could get away with it once and it was a confidence booster. Actually, the way you poured it on the second half you are probably due for a new and significant PR at Boston as long as you keep your legs fresh.

You amaze me with all your fast 20 milers and you never seem happy with them ... that is some solid running Preston. Every single thing I have ever read states do not do long runs at marathon pace ... you have to trust your training ... you only need to run 20+ miles fast one time ... and that is race day.

I guess, since my goal is so high, I am expecting for this pace to be easier...I probably need to lower my expectations. :-(

Preston, you don't need to lower your expectations, you just have to trust your training ... your race is 82 days away! Keep up the good work!! Start mixing in some faster target pace tempo runs & speed work, slow your long runs down ... it will all come together in 12 weeks.
