Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

630AM: Easy recovery run. Slept hard last night. One of those where you wake up in the same position you fell asleep in.  I coud have slept longer but it is always nice to get the workout out of the way early.

615AM: Warm (low 70's) this morning.  No more shin pain and the foot is a little tender but barely noticeable.  I'm back on the Pfitzinger 55-70 mpw workout plan. This one is tailored to multiple marathons 12 weeks apart. Stretched out the mileage w/ my longest run since UVM. I think my legs and hips are still recovering from Saturday's 10K because they felt heavy and sore even though I'm down to the lowest weight I've been since high school.

My goal for Pocatello is to get down below 160 lbs which, all other factors holding constant and assuming I can figure out how to avoid GI issues, should translate into the finish time I'm seeking (sub 3:10).

630AM: Progression run. Started slow as per usual and topped out the last mile @ MP + 10 secs/mi.  My Pfitz plan said I was supposed to rest or cross-train today, still recovering from Mary. But I don't do cross-training and I tend to err on the side of more miles always being beneficial.

6AM: Tried to get in a medium LR this morning because I have some hiking/fishing plans for the weekend.  Plan called for a 12 miler but I had to cut it a little short due to time constraints.  Keep getting dive bombed by these annoying little blackbirds. Feel like I'm trapped in a Hitchcock movie.  And its not just one area but at different points on different routes. Felt strong throughout the run. Ran an even & easy pace (MP + 30 secs/mi).

6AM: Short easy recovery run. Not alot of sleep last night but I wanted to get this workout out of the way so I could to work early, so that I could leave work early and head to the mountains. That's alot of work to avoid working.

Hiking in the Sawtooths w/ my 15 yr old. 2k + total elevation gain. Just a day trip but I brought in the float tube, fins and waders so the pack was probably 30 lbs.  Still a ton of snow and the first lake we hit was actually still mostly frozen over. I knew that this was an above avg snow year but I've never seen it so deep this late into the summer.
