Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

615AM: Warm (low 70's) this morning.  No more shin pain and the foot is a little tender but barely noticeable.  I'm back on the Pfitzinger 55-70 mpw workout plan. This one is tailored to multiple marathons 12 weeks apart. Stretched out the mileage w/ my longest run since UVM. I think my legs and hips are still recovering from Saturday's 10K because they felt heavy and sore even though I'm down to the lowest weight I've been since high school.

My goal for Pocatello is to get down below 160 lbs which, all other factors holding constant and assuming I can figure out how to avoid GI issues, should translate into the finish time I'm seeking (sub 3:10).

I was just noticing the similarities in our mileages (this year and last), and similar race times. I wasn't going to say anything but, weirdly, I just bought Advanced Marathoning and was going to do a Pfitzinger plan for my next full as well. Did you use 18/70 for UVM? Curious how you liked it...

Joe,

I did. I thought it offered a nice balance of different types of workouts. Enough to shake things up now and then and keep training interesting but not so much that it becomes overwhelming. Probably the most important development in my training came under the Pfitz plan. He recommends mid-week medium-long runs and he urges you not to split them up into two separate runs (AM and PM) as I had done in the past for convenience. That required a bit more dedication and attention then I had anticipated but I feel like I noticed a difference. My legs were stronger than ever at UVM and I credit those mid-week 12-14M runs. But for the GI issues I think I would have ran an even bigger PR.

Regards.

Thanks for the info. You definitely had a good race, especially considering the GI issues. I've been adding a few MLRs lately so it's nice to hear the you thought they were so beneficial. Good luck in gearing up for Pocatello.

Thanks. Your training looks to be going very well, especially in that Texas heat. Stay cool. ;)
