Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Visited my primary doc last week. No stress fractures but likely piriformis.  I have been doing some stretching, icing and resting it.  Went to the gym and did 40 easy mins on the TM + some strength training.  Started out tight but got better, not worse.  Very encouraged.

This is a tough injury for you, but at least this is the right time of year to be taking time off.

I hear ya but I'd prefer to cut back rather than quit. ;) Started some light jogging on TM this week and scheduled to see a PT on Monday. Stretching and massage has helped but my hope is that the PT can figure a plan to get me back to 100%. Haven't felt right in more than a year. BTW, looks like you're running strong and really pushing it through the winter. Keep it up!

By the way, if you are interested, Dr. Ryan Griffeth is a chiro in my ward. He specializes in running/athletics. He is a runner and has a booth at most races. You might want to give him a try.

Thanks. I'll keep him in mind.

Praying that you get over the injury soon. You are doing the right thing taking the recovery slow and easy, looking at the long term rather than pushing too hard to get back too soon.
