I had some success in high school and college. Winner 1985 Rod Dixon Run 

Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and racing consistently for as long as I can. Find what is sustainable for me over the long run.

Personal:

I teach AP European History and other courses at Alta High School. I coached the track and cross country teams at Alta for 16 years.

AM: I'm about 90% certain I'm going to make the committment to before work morning running. I used to do that all the time, but I've opted out this year in favor of extra sleep.

So I made it up this morning and was out the door at 5:15 for a leisurely 4.25 miles. It was a little chilly - had to wear a light jacket and gloves.

PM: 4.25 treadmill miles before track practice.

That's a double right there.

As time passes, some people become especially fearful of failure. Thet seek to protect what they've accumulated. They lose the hunger and daring of their early days. Comfortable in a cocoon, they experiment less. They try fewer new things. They embrace fewer adventures.

As we become older, it is comforting to know that we have earned a certain measure of proficiency and mastery through years of practice. It is fine and fitting to be proud of what we've done. But adults can come to stake their identity on the success they have attained, while losing the very spirit and character that made success possible in the first place.

Good advice for me at 50. I'm getting complacent.

Seven on the treadmill during swim practice. A little over 7 minute average pace. Focused on my form since I've noticed I'm becomming more of a flat-footed shuffeler every day.

Hard workout despite the low mileage...

Warmed up with an easy two treadmill miles then about an hour of strength training including some plyos. The box jumps are getting harder but something tells me I need to keep doing them. They might be the fountain of youth.

PM: 2 mile neighborhood walk.

Today is Andy's adoption day. We'll be going to watch the Utes play USC in baseball at Smith's Ballpark and dinner, as always, at Bucca di Beppo.
