Today's workout was at the gym after school while Andy was at baseball practice. I'm happy he's playing baseball this year. He went back and forth about it thinking maybe he would give track and field a try. The big issue is that he doesn't think he will get the playing time he wants - both he and I think he's better than the coaches seem to and isn't that typically the way of it in those kind of sports? The subjective nature of these sports can be maddening.

I just finished Stolen Focus (subtitle is "why you can't pay attention - and how to think deeply again) by Johann Hari and I can't stop thinking about it. It makes you think about the world we've created that is so radically different from the one we evolved to inhabit and thrive in. Lots of people who type words on this blog lived a big chunk of their lives before the internet, social media, and the smart phone and quickly recognize what these things are doing - both for us and to us. But I wonder about the kids I teach and my own kids, the digital natives, and whether they will reflect on this sort of thing and whether they would even be interested in this type of book?

You description of the book, "Stolen Focus" has already piqued my interest.
