I never really thought of the coach being sad. The Sunday after the track state meet my senior year (state was on Fri-Sat back then) I couldn't stop bawling and left church early. It's such a letdown. Then comes the malaise, then finally a renewed drive of something new to strive for. We runners are all a little nuts.

Every team and every season is a little different. I've had some years where I couldn't wait for the season to end.
Individually and collectively the group of kids I have this year are just awesome. I hope my son grows up to be like them.

"I hope my son grows up to be like them."
If not the guys themselves, be sure to let their parents know that. It really means a lot... unless the parents hate you or something - which I highly doubt.
The girl I mentioned did meet Kramer during his visit and said he seemed like a great kid - she really hopes he makes his way to Georgetown.

I once had a dad threaten a lawsuit to get me to stop morning workouts which he claimed were "excessive and abusive".
But most of them like me. Or at least tolerate me.

Seriously?! I've got some great memories of morning workouts. The fact that we were doing them and others weren't I think were key to our team's success. How did you placate the man, tell him to take a hike?

I told him his son didn't have to come. He actually told me that the practices interfered with their families morning "scripture studies". I backed down because I'm terrified of being accused of being anti-Mormon.

Yikes.

The above sounds a lot like teaching--for better, for worse.

I once knew a Catholic that read scriptures in the morning.

Rob, I think that is extremely unfortunate concerning the father and their family scripture time. Sometimes worlds collide, especially these days when time is at such a premium.. I think most Latter Day Saint families though do go to great ends to try and accommodate a lot of wholesome and extracurricular activities in the lives of their children.

You're right Steve, that one incident was definitely the exception.
