So I really planned to jog this race today and to ensure that I did everything wrong in the previous 24 hours...

1. Lifted weights the day before for the first time in months so I would be really sore on race day.

2. Went to a cross country meet all day on Saturday and ran miles up and down the hills at Soldier Hollow screaming at my runners.

3. Ate a huge lunch at Tarahumara in Midway of Carne Asada and cherry pie. Probably about 3000 calories

4. Did no warm-up at all.

5. Wore my bathing suit to race in.

So all I did was finish fifth overall in a PR time for me on this course.

Mile splits: 5:18, 5:02, 4:59, 4:50, 4:42

Steve Anderson finished second overall in something like 22:30. Unbelievable! Had a great time as usual staying overnite at the Fabulous Alta Peruvian Lodge with a lot of other runners and their families. Watching football, swimming, and draining the keg.

oops... just checked my race report from last year - not a PR, 5 seconds slower this year.

it's impossible to jog this course. nice job on doing everything wrong and still coming out with a course PR. i think that is the definition of talent. sounds like a fun time for all at the AP lodge. enjoy the rest of your weekend.

That is plain INSANE!!!! :) :) :)

Soldier Hollow is no laughing matter ... and carne asada and cherry pie as well ... dang, boy!!! :)

Must have been the swimsuit for sure!!!

(Congrats!)

I live less than a mile down the street from Tarahumara and have had some enormous meals from there myself. The cantina is a nice addition too.:)

Great job at the race!

Nice... Completely relaxed no doubt from the "preparation" and plan to take it easy. Very cool. Sounds like a good time.

This is my favorite race report of the summer. That must have taken some real patience to go out in only 5:18... were you in dead last place at the mile? :-)

5 seconds slower than last year, but this is your Speedo PR, right?

Great race and only 5 secs off in spite of the headwind and dietary abuse LOL! Sounds like you all had fun.. Really missed everyone this year:(

Wow...all I can add.

nice race! Sounds like you nailed the pre-race prep. Assuming you aren't talking about a speedo, swimsuits don't get enough credit as a multi-functional article of clothing. They work great for running, you don't have to worry about getting them dirty and you are always prepared when there is a body of water to jump in. When I was about 7 I wore the same swimsuit every day for the entire summer. My mom appreciated not having to do laundry and she could easily find me in a crowd.

Well, that's a nice race! Had fun, didn't stress or overthink it and then PR'd. Those are the best!

Maybe you should do that pre-race for all future races! Congrats.

I bought a bathing suit yesterday to race in. I am now a believer.

Wait- when we say swim suit- do we mean surfer shorts, or speedo?

We are all just glad it wasn't his leopard print grape smugglers...

Y'alls obsession with my speedo is a little troubling.
