6.25 miles on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. I'm not used to the quad pounding of real trail rinning so I'm certain I'll be sore tomorrow. Great to get out there though.

I have a goal. I just signed up for the Minnesota Voyageur 50 mile at the end of July. #motivation.

I'm pretty sure that's 50 miles of more or less continuous running. It seems a little excessive but I'm going to do some hard Utah and Colorado races like the Wahsatch Steeplechase (if they're still having it - can't find info on the internet) and the Leadville Trail half.

Murph, is that your first hashtag????

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Mar 13, 2016 at 21:24:14 from 24.10.247.181

No Brandon, I'm a long-time hashtagger. :-)

Awesome! Exciting! And skipping the 50k altogether. Although it's not really your first ultra, just your first ultra race, seeing as you've run the Grand Canyon twice.

Why are you up at 11:30 Jon?

Oh, and thanks. I'm going to take this race seriously and train hard for it. Any advice along the way would be more than welcome!

Motivation indeed!

Cool choice for a goal/race. Seems like a very runnable course. I like that the average temperature for the race is in the 50s... Summertime in Duluth - pack your bathing suits!!!

you are a glutton for punishment, aren't you?

From Fritz on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 18:29:00 from 70.208.7.55

Good call on skipping that measly 50K :) only once we see posts with just the vert will we know we have lost you.

From Jon on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 18:59:13 from 96.33.87.148

Fritz raises a good point- stop tracking mileage, just track vert and hours. :)

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 19:42:20 from 24.10.247.181

I don't even know how to use that function on my Garmin Fritz. I just know it's important to run a pile of miles in the mountains.

I'll still be at a bunch of summer 5k's. Kind of like Jon - 5ks and ultras only.

From Amiee on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 19:54:08 from 24.11.72.2

True dat! Trail/ultra runners only talk in hours run and vert and burritos consumed. Welcome to the most wonderful club in the world :)

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 20:02:52 from 24.10.247.181

I had a Chipotle steak burrito last night. Extra guac and sour cream. E. coli be damned!

From Jon on Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 20:19:45 from 96.33.87.148

That's what I used to do, now I'm retired. Although what you said is pretty accurate- last road race I did longer than 8k is in 2009.

It's MN- flat. Don't need no vert in training. Just plan on mosquitos carrying you over the hills.

(And yes, I know it's actually got some good hills)
