PM: Didn't get out the door until 7 pm with another wrestling match. Just 6.5 at 8 minute pace circling the neighborhood.

A former student and cross country runner of mine took his life this week. His name was Clayton Anderson and he was only 22 years old. I have his younger brother in class right now. Clayton was a wonderful young man, a joy to have in class, and his loss is really weighing on me. This is the third student or former student that has died this way since August. If you google Clayton Ford Anderson you can read about him on the Larkin mortuary website. He was a very interesting young man.

These things are sapping my energy. Those of you that are teachers know that teaching is like performing in a way and you have to bring a considerable amount of energy to it to do it well. Maybe more caffeine?

Awful news, Rob. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Wish there was a way to stop it. More love and building up, but I'm sure the issue is more complicated. Stress and pressures.

Tragic, sorry for the loss of another young person who has been in your life.

I don't want to forget any of them yet I don't want to dwell on it too much either.. It seems like just about everyone of them is a kid I'd be proud to call my own. My tendency, and I'm sure many of us have felt this, is to wonder if one more encouraging word or pat on the back from me would have made a difference. I know it doesn't work that way but still...

So sorry to hear this Rob.

Sorry to hear, Rob. It’s hard not to wonder if we could’ve given another encouraging word and if it would’ve helped. I know I feel like I have more encouragement to give.

More caffeine is one of the better options for the performance-based teaching you do.

That's so sad.

The way we've disrupted the lives of young people is having a terrible toll, including increased suicides. It's everywhere. My sister is in Vegas, and they had more student suicides September to November than all of the previous year. Of course, this is affecting all ages. I've seen data that suicides have risen the most in men age 30-55.
