The "Treadmill Special".

The goal was to run hard for 60 minutes and then do a 5 minute cool down. Ran 9.65 miles in 60 minutes and 10.25 for 65. I feel pretty good about this workout since I was sore going in (I've had this chronic, low grade soreness for the last couple weeks) and I didn't get started until around noon after a morning of lawn mowing and yard work

The Plan: I've got three more races on the agenda for this year. The Minuteman 5k next Saturday. The Pocatello Half Marathon the first Saturday in Sept, and the Fabulous Alta Peruvian Downhill Dash and Bar-B-Q Bash (8k) the week after that. I am considering doing a new race called the "Sinner Six" which is a six mile race in Park City the Sunday after the Park City Marathon. I believe this will be Utah's only Sunday road race and I feel I should do it out of principle. Maybe some would say lack of principle. But I believe the commandment is "honor the Sabbath and keep it holy", and since I find nothing unholy about running, I'll go ahead and race.

After that I will rest and take it easy for a few weeks. Try to focus on having fun and coaching my cross country team. I have already registered for the Austin 3M Half Marathon in Austin, Texas in late January so that will be the kick off for 2011.

***UPDATE ON THE SINNER SIX FROM THE PC MARATHON WEBSITE***

"This inaugural costume-encouraged race starts at 7 am from the Newpark Plaza. Dress up as your idea of a sinner (Please, No Nudity!) and have some fun.

How can anyone pass this up?

Sinner Six, out of principle. You make me laugh. Your a stud. I guess I should say I have run a few Sunday runs but I mention this out of Guilt only. I still need to come by to one of your Alta Practices. Do you coach the girls as well? In about three years I'll be sending alot of fast girls I have been working with there.

Matt - yeah, still coaching the girls as well.Living in Draper you probably know a few of my kids right? Deep down I really wish that I could focus on just one team, but we really don't have another strong distance coach at Alta so I'll be doing both for a while I think. We have such a large group that it really keeps me from getting to know the kids the way I would like.

Yeah, "the Sinner Six". Gotta love the name, and here in Utah it could only be in Park City. You could probably be home in time for church I bet. I'll keep it quiet if I see you on the line!

i like your treadmill special. great workout.

looks like you have some fun races planned. that alta peruvian race is quite the party!

maybe i will see you next week at the 5k.

Allie - the Alta Peruvian is hands down the best race in Utah. Did you know that they rent out the rooms in the lodge the night after the race to runners for like $35.00? They don't even have any staff on duty - we just threw our key on the counter in the morning and left. Quite a few circuit regulars stayed the night last year and it was a really fun time. Plus there's the race. The times are really good for your self-esteem as a runner.

Syndergard's, Barthlomew's, Howell's, Jones's and a bunch more. I either am friends with the kids, their parents, or a coach their little brothers and sisters for soccers. I have a few average soccer players that are great runners. I have one 12 year old that ran a 6:04 mile last year with out ever running more then 4 miles a week. I keep on encouraging them. After I get rid of a couple soccer teams I might have to help you out.

I keep seeing Babo and the Jordan kids at Draper Park. It would be nice to help the kids that I know instead.

And your right with 1:00 church I am sure I could make it in time. I might have to think that one over.

I'm feeling some real temptation already to run the "Sinner Six". LOL!

Sounds like fun..

Love the * TM Special *!!! :)

Sinner Six: I have been going back and forth on this race. I have never run on Sunday before, and I will be running the marathon the day before, but LOVE where the proceeds are going.

I was hoping that there was a same day registration just on the off chance that I will wake up and not feel like I had just run a marathon. (We are staying in PC through Sunday afternoon ... so it would have been perfect.) Unfortunately looks like the last day to register is the 14th. It wouldn't be a loss if I registered and then was in no shape to run since it is going to a good cause. Hmmmm ...

** Very nice week!!!

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Aug 07, 2010 at 18:35:28 from 24.10.248.6

Thanks Teena Marie - let me know if I can help you come up with reasons why you should race on Sunday :)

I think the Pharisees gave Jesus a hard time for healing the sick on the Sabbath and he told them (I think I'm quoting from the Gospel of Luke here) "take a hike you clowns".

Laughing so hard!!! :)

And ... amen! :) :) :)

You can always dress up *HOLEly*!!! :)

Or a clown taking a hike! :D

Or as a Pharisee!

Or a good Samaritan!

Or as the Apostle Paul! I'm certain he's a runner if not a marathoner! 1Corithians 9:24.

I will not and cannot run on Sunday. My legs and body need a REST day! :)

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Aug 08, 2010 at 19:49:56 from 24.10.248.6

Smooth - you are right as I recall, Paul did log some serious miles!

I will be running the race, but won't be dressing up. I might take a cup of coffee to the starting line, but that's as "sinful" as I'll get.

I took today off. Just went for a walk. My body pretty much demands an off day each week, although not always on Sunday.
