I woke up this morning and discovered that our GUNKY air disappeared overnight. I can see Mt. Olympus from my front window! I went outside and spent a few minutes breathing clean air.

Also discovered that Galen Rupp is a pretty decent miler. Like the fifth fastest ever indoors. We all get bits and pieces here and there about his training and I know Salazar is reluctant to part with all the details for obvious reasons, but I sure wish he would write something more comprehensive about the training of Rupp and the Oregon Project.

PM: Ran an easy 5.5 around the neighborhood and then went ice skating with the kids. I gave myself a half mile for the ice skating.

More snow coming down now.

3:50 is just a different level. His range from the mile to HM is so impressive. Lots of great performances this weekend... That Mary Cain is quite a talent as well.

It's kind of funny to read the pages and pages and pages of comments over the past week where everyone was saying NO WAY he comes close to 3:50....

Yeah, Mary Cain too...

Pretty soon we might have to start thinking about Rupp as a person who could flirt with records from the mile to the marathon in virtually the same calendar year. Not saying it's going to happen but his range is pretty remarkable.

On the international level, only Geb and Bekele have shown that kind of range in such a short time span.

Steve Scott ran 3:51.8 indoors. So other than Lagat, Rupp is head and shoulders above everyone else. I wonder if he'll take a crack at 3:49 outdoors this year. You have to think the 5K American record is in serious jeopardy. And I bet he could break Hall's half marathon record at almost any point if he wanted to try.

You're right about all that Jake. It will be fun to see the approach they take this year.

Hey I was looking at some of the photos Amiee took at the 5K on Saturday. Salazar would have a FIELD DAY correcting how you are holding your hands/thumbs while running. I think fixing that alone would drop 5 seconds a mile :-)

Speaking of those pictures, why does B.J. Christensen always remind me of a running version of Ivan Drago?

From Jake K on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 12:45:00 from 155.100.226.191

Cause he's 8 feet tall and has more gadgets than Robocop

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 12:48:52 from 163.248.33.220

Speaking of Salazar, it's been a while since I've read a "Salazar doesn't know what he's doing" thread on Letsrun.

From Jake K on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 12:52:11 from 155.100.226.191

I know, a full 3 days. If Rupp doesn't break 7:30 in the upcoming 3K, I'm sure the haters will be back out in full force.

Surfin' the net baby!

From Jake K on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 13:18:45 from 155.100.226.191

yeah its not like a STUPID AIRPLANE where they make you turn off "electronic devices" for no reason during takeoff and landing. gotta catch up on the 'net!

From Jake K on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 13:19:53 from 155.100.226.191

I want a singlet that has Rob's picture on the front and "Surfin' the net baby!" written on the back

Trust me, you don't want to sit on a plane for three hours with 200 people yaking on their cell phones around you

At least if they ever let people use their phones they'll let me use my noise cancelling headphones too.
