There was a good amount of snow on the ground this morning.  I would have run a race this mornig if my achilles wasn't so sore.  Brigham City has a 5k called the snowman shuffle and Mitch Zundell always wins it.  I have been interested to see how close I could come to Mitch right now since I know he isn't in as good of shape.  But since my achilles put me on the shelf yesterday I decided againsg any 5K attemps. 

Instead I went on a trail run above Perry.  The snow was pretty deep, (between 5-7 inches on most of the trail) so I was careful.  It was a fun run and the snow was very soft to run in and felt quite good.  I ended up working pretty hard, for going so slow, and got a good workout.  It is hard to run a 7:30 pace through snow that is halfway up your calf.  The snow was very wet though and would just pack and cushion, powder would have done me in.  I did slip once and banged my knee a little but nothing bad.    I stopped for a few minutes about halfway into my run to sled with a couple of kids above Perry.  They had a sweet sledding hill and jump going on, and they let go down a couple of times.  It was a blast, but I got pretty wet too!  44:55

It really isn't bad running in the snow and weather, some people use treadmills as an alternate, which is great.  I personally hate treadmills and in the past have just not run rather than torture myself with a run on a treadmill.  I am finally getting to the point now where I can make myself go out in any kind of weather, and once I get out it isn't too bad.  I am glad I went today, it was fun, laid back, and very pretty.  I would have went at least 11 miles but I had a two Christmas parties to go to, one of which I did not know about until this morning.  Oh well, 40 miles for me in 4 days is good right now.  I wish I could run a few more miles and have a stonger base, but I am grateful I am able to run as much as I do with my never ending injury.

James, I am right on with you on the dog thing. Sammy is always on a short gentle leash. She is well trained and always stays on my right side. I ususally carry pepper spray on my runs, not for people, for some darn dogs that look in attack mode. I have never pepper sprayed a person, but, a few dogs over the years have ran away yipping. It only take getting bitten once to really be on the defensive. I have been bitten three times.

Nice run James, and your right treadmills just don't make running fun. That's a good workout in heavy snow. This time of year with everything going on makes it hard to run the mileage you want to.

Hey, have you talked to Josse about your tendonitis? She struggled with that too, and was able to get over it with "scrapping". I hope to get the little tool and learn how to do it on my hubby. He's got achilles tendonitis as well. It's a plaguey problem.

Brent- I have never thought of pepper spray before, rocks are usually my weapon of choice, and I have to admit I am a pretty good shot. I was a paper boy when I was younger!

Thanks Kory! Miles are hard to come by this time of year, at least for me. Normally I take the whole winter offbecause it is so hard. I usually play a lot of Basketball, but I can't do that with my tendonitis, so whatever miles I can squeak out is good for now.

Dave- true that!

Lybi- I have talked to Josse about my tendonitis. Josse is awesome and really knows her stuff. I didn't think that "scraping" sounded very fun, so I have been trying the hot/cold therapy for that last couple of days to see how it works. If things aren't getting better in a couple of weeks, then I will go see Josse and learn how to do scraping.

P.S. Anything is better than ruunning on a treadmill for me.

Sorry you are dealing with some injuries. I've been struggling lately with hip problems. I really have a desire to be training more, but I just feel like I'm not getting anywhere as far as resting my body.

I know you have had some hip problems. Injuries always suck, but I have been pretty blessed this year. I just get tired of always boobing about my achilles, because I have been boobing about it for over three months now. I agree with the rest part, not enough people rest enough. Everyone gets wrapped up in their goals and mileage so much that no one takes enough time to recover. I was amazed at how many people were out running the day or Monday after St. George, there is noway that they were close to recovered. And some people are paying for it right now, or will be in the near future. I thought I have done pretty well at resting up, but then I get tendonitis which seems to be everlasting, so who knows? I might end up taking a couple weeks off if I can't get better soon, as much as I don't want to. But it is better to take some time off and heal completely than to run all year with tendonitis.
