Today was the last staw that broke my already fragile self esteem, DH and I have been helping each other try and drop a few pounds... Monday morning we stand on the scale and assess the damage or success. He is about 15 pounds down and today the .4 that I was down was back with a vengeance. This on top of the new batch of zits and self esteem crushing weekend with Barbie 1 and Barbie 2 this was more then I could handle. Finally at ten I was able to pull myself off the bathroom floor and slog out 5 miles. The thought of going too far away from my house was more then I could take so I did figure eights aroud the neiborhood. Good thing it was still snowing and no one was out on the streets so you could not tell I was a bit teary or hear my audible sobs as I ran. I have to say if it was not for the blog and hearing Carolyn, Sno and Marion and many others here in my head say "don't think just go" I would never have ventured out today. My right hip and shin were buggin the whole time, I hope some icing and streatching helps so that I can increase my miles this week. Even as I'm righting this I can't believe how pathetic I'm sounding.... so sorry today for being such a Debbie Downer. Lets hope for a better day tomorrow.

Hang in there. You look great. Don't worry too much about what the scale says. So many things can affect your weight. And it's so much easier for men to lose weight.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

It's Ok to cry and run. I do it all the time. I am SO sorry you are sad :(

OK Lori- I am pretty sure you just ran a 1/2 on saturday...right? This week is supposed to be crappy :D I weigh about 4 pounds more the few days after a race. There is a ton of built up fluid in your body to help with recovery and healing. Also, your body is storing up more fluid in case you do that again :) It's your bodies way of makeing sure that if you take off for another 13 miles, you won't die ;D

If you have to build miles this week, please make them super slow miles. You need a bit of recovery. There is a long GREAT season ahead of us and a bit of rest after a race is VERY smart and important :)

How is April 11th for memory grove??

If you are eating healthy, this means that your weight is where it should be. If not, start eating healthy. If I were to enter a weight loss contest, I would lose to almost anybody. Especially if it started Saturday as soon as I finished my long run, and ended Sunday night. I gain 9 lb in between. But what really matters is the race performance. Who cares if you have 5 extra pounds if you run faster.

Thanks every one... I'm really trying to think and be more positive...it's just taking more then usual to do it. DH and I have made a huge effort in eating more healthy, and by the scale it's working for him. My edro. doc called today to tell me I'm still a bit high/hyper so you would think that weight would be dropping off me, it's disappointing that it's not. I am slowing so I do think I need to loose a few pounds.

Marion, I think April 11th will work for me. It will be fun to run with you.

Yeah! April 11th it is :) Leslie is coming up with a route. I only need 11 miles that day. How many do you need?

You could be slower for a number of reasons. Just keep eating well and resting well and you'll be better soon. You've had a lot of stress lately and a bit of time helps with everything :) Thyroid stuff is so tricky. All will be well soon.

Lori:

Start posting everything you eat. Do that for a couple of weeks. If a food is processed, make sure to post the ingredients.

There can be a big difference between an effort to eat healthy and actually eating healthy. For me it was 5+ minutes in the marathon - from 2:33:20 to 2:27:46 on the same course. My "effort to eat healthy" had already excluded all forms of unnatural sweets, junk food, and soda pop for over 9 years, and I never slipped up. But I did not know much about whole grains vs white flower, was not eating enough fruits and vegetables, and was eating red meat.

Oh, sweet friend! I'm so sorry to hear you are this far down. But I'm glad you posted it! That's what this is all about; getting support!

If I could make only one suggestion, it would be this: go see a Naturopath! (Preferably one who trained at Bastyr.) Put aside whatever notions you have about them and just go talk to one. You are missing out on so much joy in life, and I think it's mostly the blankety-blank hormones! There are so many ways an NP can help you, and give you immediate relief. That has been my experience, and that is why I am saying this. I am not one to go for most "alternative" medicines; I don't do chiropractic, or acupuncture or any other therapies like that. But in the past year, my NP has "fixed" everything I've thrown at her, and some of that stuff had been vexing my regular doc for *years*!

I want so much for you to experience all the joy and success that I know is waiting for you. Hang in there! :)
