Short-Term Running Goals:

My goal for 2008 is to run a 3:30 marathon in St. George.  It seems to be a little bit impossible to reach, but will give it a try.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Currently, I don't have one. 

Personal:

I have been married for 17 years;  have two awesome kids (10, 12); Graduated at the U of U with BS and MBA; working full-time as Int'l Finance Mgr for USANA.  I just started to run 6-7 years ago, very liking it.  I'm not a fast runner, but would like to improve it every year.   Currently, I have an opportunity to run and train the good group of runners and a dedicated Coach.

No run today.  It's the day for Yoga & Swimming.  After Yoga, I felt so good.  But then, I had to swim for 1 1/2 hrs.  Now I'm exhausted again.....:)

Monday is the speed workout day for me.  I'm very lucky because I work in the place that allow me to do my running at lunch.  I have this group of guys that like running.  We did 4x1 miles repeats today, average 7:30 min pace.  Feeling very good after 2nd repeat.

Kids were sick today, but was able to do 6 easy miles early in the morning.  At lunch, husband went home, watched the kids, and I was able to get in an hour of cycling.  Oh...it was an intense cycling class, just a whole lot of hills climb and sprinting.  Still feel good...later in the evening, husband got home from work.  I went to swim for an hour.   Yeah....!!!

Meeting Renae at 6:30 am @ Tayslorville HS to do some track workout.  We did a mile warm up, 4x50s, 2x400s, 4x200s, and a mile cool down.  What a nice morning, overcast, cool!!!

The menu for the day was to run 8 x .75 mile loop in Brighton.  The weather was horrible.  I couldn't believe that there is snow in June.  It was cold.  

The workouts itself were great because of the elevation.  After 8 loops, everyone looked at Coach for his mercy to call it quit, and he did !!!!  

Got home around 8:30 am, I took my dog out for an easy run, 5 miles.  Oh boys, I felt great. It must be the elevation change or better weather.  My dog was huffed and puffed after we were done, but I felt fantastic.

With the weather being so hot, I decided to swim today.  I went to the West Valley Rec at lunch and swim almost a mile, 64 laps.

Utah Summer Games - 10k Race today!!!

Beautiful weather...a little bit chilly at first!!! When the gun went off, everyone ran down the canyon so fast.  At 1 mile mark, there was a guy who yelled out everyone pace, and my pace was 6:47 min/pace.  Alright...I thought to myself...this is so not me.  I don't run this pace ever.  At 3-mile mark, my time was 20:19.  I laughed.  After awhile, I ignored my amazing pace :) My competitiveness started to kick in.  I picked up the pace a little bit trying to pass the lady in front of me.  I could tell that she tried to keep up her pace too.  Unfortunately, I didn't catch up to her in time.  Kind of disappointed.

My finishing time was 44:34, pace 7:10, place 2nd age division.  This is the fastest course I have every seen!!! Will be back next year.

Utah Summer Games - 5k today!!!

Our group grew bigger from 3 runners yesterday 10k (Christina, Coach Bill, and I) to 5 runners (addition - Tracy Chorn, Tracy Atkinson).  They are sure a fun bunch to hang out with.  My quads & Hamstring were very stiff.  I wasn't sure how I would perform with the sore muscles. 

The weather was about a few degrees warmer than yesterday.  The gun went off.   A bunch of kids ran very fast down the canyon.  Some were able to maintain the pace, but some started to walk.  As for me, this race was like the bonus race.  I ran hard yesterday.  At mile 2, I saw the lady that I couldn't be able to pass yesterday.  She got me all pump up.  I determined that I would not let her cross the finish line before me.  She & I were neck to neck on pace.  The last 200 meter, Coach screamed at me "Marie, behind you..go...go".  I knew that if I slowed down, she would pass me again. Thus, I sprinted so fast and passed her by 2 seconds.  I am extremely happy.  My final time was 21:33, 6:56 min/pace, placed 2nd age division.

Ran 8 miles up the East Canyon today, to prepare for the WBR.  I was very surprised that I felt so good running up the hill without breaks.  I thought that the 10k Friday, 5k on Saturday will make me very tired....but not too bad.  I am ready for RAGNAR.

I was going to rest, but decided to run with a friend, Kent.  We went up to Brighton and did 4 loops x .75 mile.  With the 10,000 ft elevation, I was tired.

Today...I'm so tired.  I want to rest, but I realize that I have the WBR this weekend.  I am going to run the RAGNAR leg...Ahhhhhh!!!  So I called up my friend Jennifer to run with me @ City Creek. 

I showed up at 5:30 pm and it was hot...hot...hot.  We managed to run 8.5 miles, but extremely exhausted.  I am not sure if it was the heat or I didn't have rest day since Friday...oh well....!!!

WBR today...!

I was assigned to run leg #10 (Ragnar!).  I ran WBR several years now, but this is the first time I was in second van.  First two legs were fun.  I ran just like I did with 5k, 10k.  Very nervous on the RAGNAR....never see this hill before.

AHHHHH!!!! What a horrible hill it was, RAGNAR!!! I felt like it was never ended.  Coach Bill was running with me the first 3/4 mile.  I was so burned out, do decided to walk a little bit.  A few minutes later, my friend Jennifer came and pace with me to the top of the hill.  Now I know what WBR named this hill as RAGNAR.  It's horrible and steep.  But I survived!!!
