1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Good start to the week.  5 miles outside.  I haven't attempted 5 for several weeks.  It felt . . . (groan) pretty good.  I'm a little tired.  We'll have to see if I fizzle out before the day is over.  Not like brushing my teeth yet, but not as hard as running 1 mile was in the beginning.

I saw that Great Blue Heron again.  He let me get so close to him!  10 feet max.  Very cool.   He is so huge!

3 Really easy on treadmill.  5-6 mph.  I'm saving up energy for my tempo run tomorrow.  This is what I'm planning:  Wake up at  3 AM, go to a nice, well-lit straightaway that lasts forever.  Run 1 mile slow, 1 mile at 8-8:30 pace, 1 more slow.  8 minute mile is blazing fast to my body at this point, so feel free to feel very fast by comparison.  : )  Anything I can do to lift your morale . . . .  Anyway, come home and go back to bed for 2 1/2 more hours.

3 AM may seem a little extreme, maybe I'll make it 4 AM.  To me there is no difference between 5 am and 3 am--it's just stinkin' early.   MUST AVOID HEAT.  Plus James usually runs from 5-6 and then leaves for work, so 3-4 or 4-5 are good time slots for me.  I like the idea of getting another full sleep cycle in, too.

I have somewhat to say concerning my eldest brother.  The rest of you may tune out.

Heber, I had no idea you were so fast!  You have to remember that James' course was downhill!  You would've been right there with him, or very close.  Sounds like you are the superhero of our family right now.   It makes me proud that someone from our family of  *ahem* diminuative stature could keep up with Sir Galloping Blondeness (on a good day, anyway : )).  At any rate, if your intention is to run for years to come, and to continue in trying to be as fast as you can be, and you desire to be helpful to and be helped by other runners, what have you against joining this blog?

Not writing interesting stuff it not a good reason to not blog.  Tons of people on this blog just write the distance and the time and how they felt.  Sometimes I write more, but it is absolutely not required!  No pressure.   Ha ha ha.

BTW thanks for all the biomechanical stuff you write about, I always try to implement it in my running.

3 miles at 3 am.  Temp was nice!  I really liked not having a lot of cars zooming by.  Saw 2 cars the whole run.  I didn't do the tempo at Sasha's request.  Plus I was reading a book about running injuries last night and it said not to try to increase weekly distance on the same week that you add speed workouts.  Anyway, I liked running way early (other than the 1st 5 minutes). The only problem was that I kept waking up all night long.  Is it time to run!?  Is it time to run!?  Plus my children woke me up a couple of times, so I'm a little tired--even though I went back to bed after my run.  I'll have to give it another try to see if it is going to work for me.   ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.

Slept in today.  Ahhhhhhh.  All I can say is that I love my pillowtop!  3 miles on the treadmill, nice and easy.  1 mile at 5 mph, 1 at 5.3 and one mostly at 5.5.  Feel great now.

I wonder if I'm going to show any improvement in my next race (5K on July 4th).  I don't feel like I am pushing myself.  Well, I am trying to build up a base and avoid injury.  *Sigh*

I had so much fun this morning swimming laps (in a play pool) with my kids.  They took turns riding on my back (I was doing breast-stroke) like I was a sea monster.  Good times.  I feel like I have a lot more energy in general since I started running.

3 miles outside tonight in 27:00 (with breaks in between).   Warm up mile (continuous) in about 10:45, strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreettttch; then 1 mile of fartleks in 6:45 (if you only count the fartleks--there was some walking in there as well) more stretching, cool down mile (continuous) in 9:30.  I was completely surprised that my last mile was faster than my first, because my legs were totally dead.  Like trying to run on ham shanks. . . or maybe with an entire pig strapped to my back.  I guess what they say about running farleks is true--they improve your form, and help your overall running.  I'm a-gonna be sore tomorrow.  Can't wait.

I was really grouchy going into this run, so I think I just wanted to do something a little different.  I either needed a good hard run, or a humongous brownie.  Why I chose running beats the dickens out of me.

Tomorrow I will reach my 20 mile a week goal, so even though I'm sure I'll be sore, I've gotta get out and do 3 easy miles.  Whew!  Now since I wrote it down I know I'll do it.

Good luck everyone who is running the Wasatch Back and other races on Saturday!!!

There you have it...a new weekly mileage record.  3 on the treadmill as easy as I could make it and still (technically) be running.  Never opened my mouth to breathe the whole run, so that's gotta be easy.

I am a little bit worried about a little bit of a sore throat that I've got.  Please not strep again!  It's probably nothing, but I know that James has exposed me again.  I've been gargling that super nasty mouthwash all evening.  Please please please . . .
