AM - 10 miles. Golden Gate Park, similar to yesterday.

PM - 2.5X wine tasting/tours.

San Francisco was very fun - although it was chilly and foggy in the city for the majority of the weekend, so we spent most of Saturday in Marin County, and then all day Sunday in the vineyards of Sonoma.

Sounds fun. I'm at 399.4 miles on my 2nd pair of your pro models, ie just shy of the last pair when Saucony took them back. Any guesses as to how long I can keep them going?

From Derek D on Sun, Aug 03, 2014 at 21:21:16 from 68.109.132.154

Strong double. That PM session sounds rough.

From Jake K on Sun, Aug 03, 2014 at 21:46:54 from 174.240.8.88

The PM session left the legs a little too wobbly for another run :-)

Beautiful area - I'll post some photos when we get back tomorrow.

From Jake K on Sun, Aug 03, 2014 at 23:27:17 from 174.239.96.12

Shoe mileage is highly variable between people, even for the same models, so I don't really have a guess for how long they will last.

From SlowJoe on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 11:18:36 from 168.215.171.129

Sounds like an awesome trip, great pictures. Skipping the PM run in favor of booze is a typical SlowJoe move.

Collin - is that 399 miles at altitude or sea level? Shoes last 3 times longer down here.

From CollinAnderson on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 11:32:46 from 155.98.15.26

Hah. Very funny. Altitude again? You guys love this topic. I was just perusing the NCAA calculator and it does confirm that the easier someone is running (or the longer someone can hold a pace), the more altitude affects performance. Jake still disagrees though, so I'm not going to bring it up with him anymore, as there's no point. At the end of the day, Jake's faster than me on any course, and that's what matters in running.

From Jake K on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 11:47:24 from 159.212.71.69

That's not even remotely relevant to Joe's comment. He was talking about how long shoes last, not easy running pace at different elevations. So you are bringing up this topic (again).

From CollinAnderson on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 11:53:23 from 155.98.15.26

Haha, and there was obviously no sarcasm involved...

From SlowJoe on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 12:28:40 from 168.215.171.129

Look, the only thing we know for sure is that Saucony makes a great shoe.

From CollinAnderson on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 12:38:16 from 172.56.39.190

That is true. I would suggest wearing that A6 when going after your 2:41 at Phoenix. :)

From Matt Poulsen on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 15:24:49 from 50.168.224.197

Looking great, Jake. So good to see you building again. Keep it up. "Carnage by Krong" coming soon. Sounds like a fun trip to Cali.

From KristenRuns on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 17:00:43 from 68.15.2.98

Good call. Marin and Sonoma > SF.

From Josh E on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 22:07:43 from 71.213.20.236

You know it's falsely asserted that Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." My mother in law used to say that about 600 times a day when she visited.

From Josh E on Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 22:08:06 from 71.213.20.236

And Kristen - take that back!

From allie on Tue, Aug 05, 2014 at 08:26:53 from 161.38.221.168

those vines in that last photo look like they are missing a few grape bushels.

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 05, 2014 at 08:39:33 from 159.212.71.69

We're already plotting a return to Sonoma/Napa. Not necessarily SF.

Those grapes are the most delicious fruit ever. Nothing like eating a $500 handful of them.

From KristenRuns on Tue, Aug 05, 2014 at 10:18:16 from 68.15.2.98

I was always plotting escapes to wine country when I lived in SF ;) I prefer Sonoma over Napa. It's more relaxed, less crowded, and more agricultural/rural. For your next trip, I would spend an afternoon in the Dry Creek area (Mounts Family Winery and Dutcher Crossing are awesome). Russian River area is great too (Woodenhead Winery and Hartford Family Winery). Willow Wood Market Cafe has the best breakfast!

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 05, 2014 at 10:20:13 from 159.212.71.69

Our friends are up there all the time and never go to Napa. They really like the vibe in Sonoma.

Good tips - I'll keep those on my hitlist.

Is this the fast running blog or the stuff white people like blog?

From CollinAnderson on Tue, Aug 05, 2014 at 10:30:44 from 172.56.39.190

Ah, the quintessential white people passions: wine and super-high-mileage elite-level Olympic-trials-qualifying-aimed race preparation. :)
