AM - 14 miles up to work. Kinda dragging and asleep until I got stung by a bee about an hour into the run. It got me well above the inseam of my shorts (which are 1.5" to begin with) on the inside of my leg, so needless to say - that woke me up!

PM - 7 miles. Andrea picked up up from work b/c we had to go downtown to meet w/ the Saucony rep for a little while. Did an easy run to the horsepark and loops on the grass once we got home.

The real Olympics start today! LetsRun is doing previews for "casual fans / friends & family" - here's their rundown for day one. I also made a blog with an abbreviated version of the athletics schedule.

Here's a good link for a working live stream, much better announcers than NBC!

Sorry about the bee sting. Ouch! You do need to be careful about where you choose to pollinate yourself :-)

From JD on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 09:13:46 from 70.96.78.149

sounds like that bee was definitely "in the zone"!

From Rachelle on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 09:51:02 from 159.212.71.77

I could have used a bee sting to get me moving this morning. :)

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 09:52:29 from 155.100.226.54

It was like a shot of adrenaline. I was in lazy bones running mode up until that point :-)

From Adam RW on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 10:20:35 from 155.101.152.123

Ouch! Did you have a Gu up there? Glad you are not allergic. Looking forward to the women's 10K today. Thanks for streamlining the schedule for us.

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 10:21:46 from 155.100.226.54

If I had known the bee was going to fly under my shorts, I would have just saved it the trouble and worn my super-short flag shorts!

From prestonmadera on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 10:52:10 from 67.182.220.96

Thanks for posting the Olympic schedule, looking forward to watching!

From allie on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 11:02:59 from 174.23.146.24

oh my!

From prestonmadera on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 14:45:08 from 67.182.220.96

Did you catch the HUGE Polish Shot-putter that ran across the track during the 10k? He was like 3x the size of all the women running!

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 14:46:09 from 155.100.226.54

Go Poland!!! haha yeah i saw that!

From Lulu Walls on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 14:55:47 from 155.100.212.98

How are you watching the Olympics at work?!? Nothing is working for me rarrrr!

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 14:57:01 from 155.100.226.54

It makes me install something and requires an admin password. I need to make friends with peeps in IT :(

From DaleG on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:01:04 from 66.87.127.11

Thanks for the info Jake. Anything is better than listening and watching NBC....although, Al Trautwig doesn't bother me. I can't stand what's his name....the guy behind the desk that is always snarky. I always forget his name. Lol. That's how unimpressed I am with him.

Dang bee!!!

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:04:06 from 155.100.226.54

I don't mind Trautwig and Costas... NBC just doesn't have announcers that know distance running like the British do.

WOW that was an incredible women's 10K!!!

From Adam RW on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:04:58 from 155.101.152.123

Unbelievably strong finish. WOW!

From prestonmadera on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:05:59 from 67.182.220.96

Absolutely incredible 10k, very entertaining!

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:06:05 from 155.100.226.54

from 500m to 100m she ran that lap in 60 FLAT!

From Russ on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:08:29 from 74.114.3.253

Thanks for the link Jake - awesome finish! She ran a great race.

From Bam on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:13:06 from 89.204.249.13

Bit of a sting in the tail of that 10k:)

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:14:55 from 155.100.226.54

Yowzers I would not want to have her behind me in a 10K going into the bell lap. I think I closed in ~68 up in Portland in June. She would totally outkick me. I gotta get back to my speedwork!

From DaleG on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:28:06 from 66.87.66.204

Yeah, Costas. He's the one I don't like. I don't remember what he said during the 2002 winter Olympics, but he was making rude comments about Utah and I haven't liked him since.

They should have Ed Eyestone do the commentary on the running events.

From allie on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:28:17 from 174.23.146.24

the baby face destroyer strikes again. so awesome.

From allie on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:29:21 from 174.23.146.24

how can you not like costas? he never ages. it's amazing!

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:30:22 from 155.100.226.54

If you think Costas says bad stuff about Utah, you should go to Letsrun dot com! :-)

From allie on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:32:26 from 174.23.146.24

or bill walton...

From DaleG on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:32:49 from 66.87.126.27

Lol at allie!!!

I'll check out that site. Is it bad? I get really offended when people say mean things about the great state of Utah.

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 15:34:41 from 155.100.226.54

its the best running site in the world!

but they make fun of anything and everyone - its all fair game on their message boards! :-)

From steve ash on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 19:32:09 from 174.52.177.84

Got any favorites for the men's 10,000 meters? Marathon?

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 19:43:01 from 67.177.11.154

10K tomorrow will probably come down to the Bekele brothers vs Mo Farah and Galen Rupp. Should be a barn-burner.

Obviously the Kenyan and Ethiopian marathon teams are loaded. Those 6 guys have to be the overwhelming favorites.

From steve ash on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 19:53:43 from 174.52.177.84

I'm really hoping Ryan Hall will have a great miracle happen. I know the depth of the field is just incredible but at least the weather will be more in his favor this time around.

I've seen less likely outcomes happen however:)

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 03, 2012 at 19:56:53 from 67.177.11.154

hey its a marathon - anything can really happen. meb surprised in 2004. I'll definitely be rooting hard for the USA guys. If there's one thing that is almost for certain about Ryan, its that he'll put himself up in the mix early in the race.
