| I was going to get up early and go run Bunchgrass to White Pine Lake, but it was raining. So, the logical alternative was obviously to take a steeper, harder route in a giant rainstorm...but a little closer to home. LRT and Spring Hollow. Took the Padawans up Stump Hollow. Got a few extra miles running shuttle between two groups. Unfortunately, one of them didn't eat hardly anything before the run and had to turn around eventually because she was bonking pretty hard. Guess we all have to learn sometime... Other than that it was pretty uneventful. Trail was great, as usual, and there wasn't any traffic even though it was rather late in the morning because it had rained the night previous.

| Bunchgrass to White Pine Lake. Haven't run this trail since last fall with Cody. It was enjoyable and the wildflowers were all out. Saw a big bull moose coming back as well. Really cool. 2:06:16 (8:38/mi.) Did a trail review on my blogspot.

| Planned on getting up at 4:30 AM to go on a long tough 20 miler from Temple Fork to Naomi Peak, since I had other things going starting early in the morning. Apparently I didn't wake up to my alarm. In retrospect (I'm writing this Aug. 17), it was probably a good thing, since it probably would have affected my race at Vaquero Loco. |

| No real run today. Drove to Afton after work, picked up my packet at the pre-race meeting, found a Burger King to eat at, and went and found a camping spot. Ty had reserved a campground near the mouth of the canyon for all the race participants which was really nice. Went to bed around 9 after taking a walk for a couple of miles to explore and work any stiffness out of my legs from the drive. Legs were actually ok this time. |

| Jardine Juniper with Cody. He's back! Run felt amazingly good considering. I only felt the fatigue going downhill. Pace was pretty slow and relaxed, and it's a good thing. | Trail run with Cody. Ricks Canyon-Steel Hollow loop. Felt a little sickish going up Ricks, and the going was very slow and overgrown and the trail was in sorry condition due to the huge amounts of runoff this spring. It wasn't as bad as I expected though. Started feeling better once we got on the dirt road connecting Ricks and Steel. Steel was in great shape considering. Much better than when I ran it this spring. Enjoyable run, and felt pretty decent other than going up Ricks. 1:48:52 (9:16/mi.)

| Road run. Easy-hard-easy type run with several pushes near MP alternated with an easy jog-run. Felt pretty decent, and it was nice to put some speed in the legs. I need to focus on that for the next few weeks for St. George. Being sick set me back at least a week which is not good, but it is what it is. | Epic trail run with Cody. 3:30 came way too early. Due to my mistake in reading my work schedule, we planned to run High Creek, leaving at 5:30 so I could be back for work by noon, but since I actually had to work at 10, we decided that getting up at 3:30 and starting the run at 4:30 was the best option. The stars were out and it was very dark at the start of the run...and it was still dark an hour into the run when we missed a critical fork in the trail. We ended up going up a totally wrong canyon, bushwhacking along deer trails and through dense brush for 3 miles, finally hiking to the top of a huge ridge when it got light and realizing that we were at least 2 miles off course. We continued bushwhacking back down the mountain, back to the last discernable trail by a beautiful waterfall, and then back down to the junction where we missed the turn. By now we were very limited on time, so we went up the right trail for half an hour and then ran back to the car, making really good time. It was a fun trail, and I want to do it again before snow flies. All in all, getting "lost" aside, it was a great run and I've got a few nice scratches on my legs to show for it. Didn't make it out the door with my Garmin, so no info on time or pace, but I figure I was doing good if that's the only thing I forgot at 4 AM. |
