"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

6 miles after work (6pm) on the buffalo ranch trail. dark, light mist rain, no wind, temps in the low 40's. i've never run this loop in the dark before. i was looking forward to it because for a two mile stretch on the west side of the trail there's nothing; no power lines, no buildings or lights, nothing but land, marsh, coyotes and quietude between me and antelope island off in the distance. i have to admit my heart gave a little flutter when i saw a dark, hulking figure walking ahead of me at one point (i seldom see anyone there on perfect summer mornings! let alone rainy winter nights). i was instantly relieved when i got close enough to see it was just some dude with a large backpack and rifle strapped to his back. i muttered my manliest greeting as i ran by him.

ha! funny! I would have been totally scared of man with rifle. I see you're still going strong! You're awesome!

And I'm sure he was very impresses with your manliness. Ha! And I'm with Stacie, I would have been freaked out. Actually if I saw him in the distance I would have turned around and ran home as fast as I could! Nice job. Freak!
