AM: 5.3 miles.

Started a workout and then pulled it. I didn't follow my advice that I adopted from Jake and have benefitted from greatly. In fact, I gave someone the same advice the other day: "Move on to the next workout as planned. Do NOT try to repeat the workout."

Plan was to run 10-15 x 1k starting around 3:35 or a little slower and cutting down. I got 3:36 on the first one and 3:39 on the second. Nope. You knew it was a really dumb idea. You did it anyway. Say what you what in your head, but wait until later to type your entry.

PM: 7.7 miles.

Good run other than a bunch of Swedish Fish trying to escape the whale's stomach.

Your entries right now remind me of myself around this time 2 years ago.

I don't know exactly what I would have done differently, but I was definitely over-pressing and over-thinking and trying to make up blown workouts and whatnot. So I guess don't go too far down that road :-)

I don't really know what I was thinking. I know better than to do that. I think I am starting basebuilding early and just running Broad Street off of residual fitness. Meaning I don't know that I will try to fit anything in. Won't do me any good even if I crush it.

From SlowJoe on Thu, Apr 21, 2016 at 19:09:34 from 107.77.66.60

That's the problem with being so fit Jason - it takes so much thought and training to keep sharp! I hope you learned your lesson.

Much more relaxing knowing you can probably improve just by not taking a bunch of days off all the time, and maybe doing some strides or something every so often.

From Jake K on Thu, Apr 21, 2016 at 19:26:06 from 67.166.113.191

Haha that hits home. I thought about strides a couple days ago... Here is the exact conversation I had in my head: "Man, if I started doing like 6-8 strides every third or fourth day, that would take like 10 minutes total per week and I could probably get fairly fast.... Eh, whatever."

From SlowJoe on Thu, Apr 21, 2016 at 19:30:58 from 107.77.66.60

Pretty impressive when it's not even worth it to do strides! Maybe after ski season.

From Jason D on Thu, Apr 21, 2016 at 22:54:29 from 68.80.27.222

Yeah. Consistency goes a long way. You won't knock out a PR but you will be the envy of your non-running friends and knock out times you thought would be near impossible when you first got into running.

I plan on doing mostly strides. I don't want to hate running. I really need it.

Strides are supposed to be fun. Care-free and childlike and such. I have some John/Bam-recommended Kellogg strides that I will be doing during my base phase. 18 strides seems more like a glorified farlek but I get the idea.

I'm going to make a goal of doing a couple sets of strides before Memorial Day

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 22, 2016 at 11:51:01 from 107.77.66.60

Jake, that's less than 6 weeks away! Please be careful.

From Jake K on Fri, Apr 22, 2016 at 12:03:23 from 67.128.146.21

If I feel like I'm piling on too much too soon, I'll push the deadline back to flag day.

From Jason D on Fri, Apr 22, 2016 at 12:33:46 from 68.80.27.222

I'd say wait until Flag Day. Memorial Day seems too ominous.

Jake Krong, 2:20 Marathoner, Lover of the Outdoors, and Master Landscape Photographer, died unexpectedly Saturday by Pre-Memorial Day Strides. His physical absence will no doubt be felt. His virtual absence, likewise, palpable.

I'll also ship Andrea a Jack's Hard Cider to pour on your grave.

Ah you got me actually laughing out loud in the office. Excellent writing. I'm going to save that eulogy.

From Jake K on Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 12:45:17 from 159.212.71.84

I finally did the strides. Not pre-Memorial Day, pre-Flag Day, or even pre-Independence Day... but I got them in on August 17th... with plenty of time to even get in another set or two before Labor Day!

From Jason D on Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 13:44:41 from 24.127.111.174

Don't get too carried away!

I thought I felt a disturbance in the force that day...
