Last chance workout. I was going to do a long 10k (6.25 miles) a goal pace, but Coach Bam suggest 6 x 1k @ HMP w/ 1k floats at MGP. Clearly he no longer thinks of me as a hobby jogger because when I suggested 6.25 miles last buildup at MGP he said that was for big boys so do 5 or do 4 x 1 mile @ HMP.  I did some math last night and realized I would probably be running 7.44 miles at 10-15 seconds average below marathon pace.

65 degrees w/ 73% humidity to start 76 and 55% when I finished. It wasn't easy, but I imagine I will be running in the 30s or 40s in northern Maine this time of year. I bailed on the last k float because I was done. Effort was high at the end. I still got in 6.8+ miles at 6:24 pace, which is about 11 seconds fast than my A++ goal, so that's good.

2.75 up and 2 down w/ 6 x 1k @ HMP w/ 1k float @ MGP

Average mile pace for ks (HMP, GMP)

Set 1: (6:14, 6:33)

Set 2: (6:08, 6:36)

Set 3: (6:10, 6:33)

Set 4: (6:10, 6:35)

Set 5: (6:13, 6:39)

Set 6: (6:26, bailed)

Headed to Toledo to see Megan. Should be a couple easy, short runs on soft trails.

So what did you end up doing? 3x1 mile at hmp with 1 mile float at mp?

From Jason D on Thu, May 09, 2013 at 11:17:39 from 24.1.80.94

Sorry, I was still editing. I needed to eat lunch :) I did as you suggested but pulled the plug when the pace started to drop off on the last HMP k repeat. It wasn't crazy hot, but it definitely was a factor. I'm happy with it even though I had to work harder than I wanted to and I skipped the last float.

Nicely done Jason. I think you're ready!

Yep, good session. You're ready. Be careful about the taper. It's ok to do a late and short taper if you're training through a race or if you're supremely fit like Bam and the Kenyans. I 'humbly' suggest that you get tapering:)

From Jason D on Thu, May 09, 2013 at 12:33:17 from 24.1.80.94

Thanks, Riley. I'm ready. Legs responded, but they aren't there yet, which is good. As Melody said, I think you might surprise yourself. You can train like crazy and fall apart on race day or you can question your training and run well (I'm not tell you anything you don't know, I guess).

Bam: I was wondering when you were going to get after me. I feel loved :) Short and easy the next two days (4-5 miles) on flat trails. Sunday it's 12-13 like usual and things really start dropping off after that. Trying to be smart, such is why I pulled the plug today. My form was off and the direction I was heading was all uneven concrete sidewalks. I've met my quota of faceplants this buildup.

Good one! You are ready, enjoy the taper.

Perfect way to end your buildup! Your confidence should be pretty high right now.
