Good luck in the race tomorrow - I'm betting on a fast one...

Yeah, good luck tomorrow - the works done and I suspect you'll have a cracker over an unuaual distance.

What's with a 15k race - I thought, when it came to weights and measures, you folk were stuck in cowboy times. Although we've gone metric, we don't have 15k races; we have 10 milers.

Thank, Joe. I'm hoping for good results. Got to clear a bit of departmental merry-making out of my system first though . . .

Thanks, Bam. We love and hate the metric system. When I do workouts I usually provide the metric (16 x 400), when I am really not on the track (the numbers are so close it doesn't much matter). The 10 miler has been eclipsed by the popularity of the half marathon (I think). I don't see many 10 milers around here. For us slower runners the 15k is a really good indication of lactate threshold (but a 10 miler would be even better in my case). Cross country is all metric distances, but the USATF championship series (like half the fast folks will run in June) basically has everything. Jake could tell you a bit more about the history. I'm still learning to run and still learning all the history :)

Best of luck to you on Saturday Jason - your training will provide you with a nice time tomorrow if all goes as planned.

Thanks, Bret, I've seen some great improvement this buildup. Didn't think it could compared to last year, but so far it has been that and even better.

Bam - I expect your prediction in my inbox before close of business.

What's the course like? I can't find an elevation chart... But I was looking at a Garmin profile of Boston on an Irish site - loads of Irish are heading over... sub 2:30 Joe:)

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 14:04:46 from 155.219.241.10

Tracks down a river most of the time - I'm no genius but my womanly intuition tells me it's pretty flat.

I thought Boston was already part of Ireland?

From Jason D on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 14:30:03 from 24.1.80.94

It's pretty flat. Basically it's the same course as the 10k with a detour at the start and an extension at the end (miles 5-8). Uses the first and last mile from my 5k in February too.

This is what my Garmin had from the 10k: http://connect.garmin.com/splits/282203820

Here's the course map. No elevation profile though:

The winner last year ran 46:53. As I recall more competitive people showed up as the races got longer. Little Jason was just a jogger lad with his 7 minute pace run last year :) I think I ran 1:05:12 or something like that.
