It was extremely windy and snow was blowing albeit not accumulating.

I went to my first phyical in some time today at 3:00. I fasted, which wasn't as bad as I thought. Blood pressure was 110/72 and my EKG showed a heart rate of 40, which of course immediately set the doctor off. She still isn't sure about the data on the print out so she sent me to a cardiologist.

I wish I had all of my numbers from my fitness checkup at Purdue from fall 2013. I know my resting HR was 37 and my weight was 171, but I can't remember my other numbers. I do recall my good cholesterol was beyond the measurable range on the machine.

I also asked her for a physical therapy referal for my hip/psoas, which has been tight for several years. It is long overdue to be released, which will hopefully help with flexibility, efficiency, and injury prevention.

I ran immediately after the visit and actually felt decent and had a solid finish to the run. I had a few snacks and asked Megan to pick up some Buddy's pizza as I didn't feel like cooking.

Ummm.... Your resting heart rate is zero. I think you should see the Cardiologist.

I have had this happen a couple of times not for the low resting HR but because the EKG actually shows a weird reading, which is consistent with an "athletic heart" which is not uncommon for endurance athletes. So I had to do a stress test a couple of times at the cardiologist. Both times it made for some fun on the treadmill - with the staff gradually moving the speed and incline up on the treadmill trying to get my HR up to a level where it could show a useful measurement for the testing. Most of the patients they see are much older or much less physically fit, and they rarely need to have the speed / incline on the tm at that level.

I always get the comment "are you feeling okay" after they check my HR too. I just say, "Yes I'm a marathoner" and they say "I thought so". 😊

Thanks, Bret. I wasn't too worried, as I don't imagine they see too many people who run as much as I do even if I don't in greater contexts run that much.

A nurse asked me at Purdue if I drank red wine and she said that was why my numbers were good. I failed to tell her I was pretty sure I exceeded the recommended amount.
