800m repeats on Rome Drive. 3.2 warm up, drills, and strides. 6 x 800m w/ 2 min slow recoveries. Goal was 3:00-3:05. Reps were 2:58.4, 3:00.1, 3:00.0, 3:00.4, 3:01.6, 2:57.3. Averaged 2:59.63.  3.16 mile cool down home.

Not mind blowing speed obviously, but this is at least a 13-second average improvement from last spring when I started formal speed work.

Great workout Jason. That's a huge improvement on last year. It's good to compare how you're going against the previous year as you can see how far you've come. It'll be good to see next year's comparison.

That's a great session, nice and consistent too. It definitely helps to stay in touch with those types of paces.

Thanks, guys.

Bam: Last year my 800 pace was half marathon pace by the end of the year. I am guessing that won't happen this year, but it is possible. I always love to look back over the year and compare.

Joe: Thanks. I'm not sure why I don't run more them because I love nothing more than running fast (say, 5:20 or faster when I am pushing it). I just worry about getting injured.

I looked at my last 800 session that was in July (on a warmish day) and I was doing 3:15ish, which wasn't much faster than what I was doing in March. Later that week my 5k race was about 6:20-6:22. Since I have never run a sub-6 mile, I'd like all of my splits in the next 5k to be sub-6, but we will see.
